(no subject)

I was walking back from Diesel this morning and I saw a sign on Diva saying "DIVA LOUNGE IS NOW OPEN". Finally!!! Seriously I have been watching them work on that space for YEARS now. Is tonight the first night it's open, or has anyone been already? What's it like?

I don't know, but that's one ugly exterior. I'm surprised it was approved to look like that.

I really miss the Indian grocery that was there before...we needed that a lot more than we need a stupid "lounge."

Um, we still have an indian grocery! Look at the quickie shop next to Namaskar. The front half is all ordinary produce, but the back half is filled with wonderful Indian imports, delicious dinners, samosas, etc.

There's also a Pakistani grocery on the south (west?) side of Mass. Ave, across from Day Street. I assume that this is similar to an Indian grocery, but I don't know, as I have not been inside it.

It's not the same though...but yeah, you're right. I forgot about that...

A giant cat box on that corner would have been better than Diva :(

Yeah, but then we'd have to worry about the giant cats.

The sign outside before we knew what it would be said "You will be so happy!" to find out what it is. I'm not so happy, dammit! I'd be happier with a giant cat box because then I could send my cat out to play with the other cats. He could bury his poop there instead of in my shoe.

[identity profile] philbot.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The giant cats would likely toy with your cat and then either eat her or bury her in the giant catbox. Is that what you want? Is it?

My cat would rule the giant cats. Then, because my cat loves me, I would be consort of the queen of the giant cats.

There is no doubt that being consort of the queen of the giant cats would be better than Diva Lounge.

OMG the icon cute. My calico is jealous. See?

I've toyed with the idea of a cat playdate in the past and all my friends who also have cats have completely rejected it.
I'm saddened that cats really just don't play along as well as dogs. But imagine if they did! A giant cat box would be so fun.

My kitties would! They love other kitties. Well, except for Patrick; he's a bit...different...but the other three would like it!

What's wrong with giant cats? (http://www.makingfiends.com/fiend01.htm)

I read somewhere, a while back, an article about Diva and Diva lounge wherein a manager of Diva was quoted as saying something like Davis was great because it is almost as hip and stylish as Newbury Street. Ahem. I think that explains Diva Lounge. Based very roughly on other articles about Diva and its sister restaurants that I've read over the years, it seems that the managment of Diva has been handed down to a younger generation of the founding family, and the kids are way hipper than their parents (see: Mantra in the Ladder District) but they sure have let the quality of the food slide. Remember when Diva would crowd your table with loads of copper pots, family-style? And they provided free papadam? Now they have those giant funky plates with little scoops of food, and no free papadam. No free papadam=bad.

No free papadam?! Not cool :-(

namaskar's better, anyway.

i went to diva when i first moved to davis square, and it just seemsed like your average "indian" restaurant (which is to say that most "indian" restaurants in the USA would be more accurately described as punjabi restaurants, as the food they serve is mainly punjabi-style, with almost no south indian dishes). haven't been back there since.

Namaskar is for me. Haven't been to Diva in at least two years. Was sick of their attitude and shift away from the copper pots.

Walls lined with bubbly tiles.

No, really. I peeked through the window on the front door when I was in town last month, and through its distorted glass, I could see walls apparently lined with those same bizarre bubble tiles.
