I hate to spread rumors, so I'll quantify that I've gotten this secondhand from an overheard conversation.

Has anyone else heard anything about the possibility of the Someday Cafe re-opening in the pool room of Sacco's Bowl Haven?

I've been hearing about it for months but I don't know if it's really going to happen. Every once in a while I see Joe Sacco on the street and ask him about it, and he always says he's trying to decide between Someday and several other possibilities (other food vendors). He didn't even seem to be sure he wanted to take the pool tables out after all.

I'd say the problem is it's the former employees of Someday that are hoping to open this business. You know, as opposed to a person or group that actually knows how to do such things.

include Redbones investing in Sacco's on some level.

Considering the popularity of the Diesel pool tables, perhaps keeping them is not a bad plan.

Yep, Redbones (or more specifically, Redbones owner Bob Gregory) was one of the other names Joe Sacco mentioned to me.

I don't get how Redbones would work. Would they move from their current location to Saco's or just have menu options there, and delivery?

If it was possible to add a small beer-only bar I think they'd be set.

Though, right now I think that's a popular place for high schoolers at night, so I don't know how that would change things.

Joe didn't seem especially enthusiastic about any kind of liquor license when I saw him, but he could change his mind.

my understanding from years ago, when Goodtimes wanted to come into davis. He was and is still set against a liquor license and pool do not mix. according to him.

Until state law was changed a few years ago, a bowling establishment could not serve beer and allow that beer to be brought out of the bar and down to the lanes.

Where would Good Times have gone, and how was Joe Sacco involved in that? The place is huge, and I can't imagine where it could have fit anywhere in Davis.

ok this is it but they tried to get in to the square the building behind the movie theatre many years ago before it went to assembly square. obviously it did not work out. I have not said anything about bringing beer into a lane. and we are talking about pool. the neighbor hood is involved in what happens around here and opinions are heard.

I never knew about that! I'm glad Good Time didn't go into that building, especially with the problems they've periodically had (e.g. Brazilians rioting when the power went out during a World Cup telecast). Too rowdy and noisy an establishment to be put right next to houses.

It's not near where anyone lives, so the city probably is more tolerant of bad behavior there than it would be in Davis or Union squares.

Rachel from The Someday posted this last week. I don't know if it's true, but she said they're working on a coffe cart to go inside Saccos. Could be the start of something.

Summary: the Someday folks are building two wheeled carts which they plan to install in the lobby of Sacco's, once all code inspection and licensing issues are dealt with. They hope to 'open' in May.
