bridesmaid's dress alteration

i feel like this has been asked before, but i can't find it.

i need to get a bridesmaid's dress altered near davis. i have gotten simple alterations done by eleni, but wasn't sure how she fared in the formal dress area (she doesn't come off as super fashionable but i could be wrong).

also, if you can approximate how long and cost, that'd be great.

thanks, all- i will probably take it to eleni then. i just wanted to make sure b/c i have no idea how this dress is supposed to fit me so i'm relying on an expert to make it somehow look good.

if you can do one adjustement generally you can do most of them, i'm willing to bet eleni can do what you're looking for, as she doesn't strike me as just a hem-or-shorten type of tailor. :)

Although it's not in the Davis area, I liked Rizzo Tailor in Harvard Square (on Church St.) when I went there to have a formal dress altered. Joe did a beautiful job of taking it in, removing an unnecessary zipper, and creating a gauzy lined panel on the back to hide the top of a low-back bra that wasn't quite low enough.

If I ever have a couple grand to spare, I'm gonna have that guy custom-tailor me a suit. Oh yeah.

I take bridesmaid dresses to Janette in Arlington. She is right on Mass. Ave, is visually similar to Eleni, but wears sexy shoes :) She knows the whole formal-dress drill (bust pads, a hem that won't trip you when you dance, etc.) and was far cheaper than other places I called.

Here's her info:

Janette Tailoring & Alteration
805 Massachusetts Ave, Arlington, MA 02476
(781) 646-8410

Also she's open after 5 and on Saturdays!

I believe it was Eleni that did the alterations for my wife's bridal gown, and quite well at that. (If it turns out not to be, I'll post again.)

Eleni did a bridesmaid dress for me back in Feb. and it turned out great. She got the length right and everything. I am strongly planning on taking my wedding dress to her--can't think of a good reason not to do.

eleni did exactly that for me - i brought in this marc jacobs dress i bought at a thrift store that was too big so she nipped and tucked it and made it more modest and made the straps more flattering. i thought she did a good job. i think it was like $20 or less and it took her a week (most things seem to take her a week)
