Just got my maid of honor dress for a friend's wedding in September, and rather than give another red cent to the David's Bridal Wedding Industrial Complex, I'm looking for an amazing local seamstress/tailor to do some alterations. Have car, able to travel.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I'm looking to hire four or five people to help with passing appetizers, buffet setup and serving, and cleanup at my informal/partially self-catered August 3 wedding at the Armory. Anyone have suggestions on where to find them?

What I'm wondering is if there's a happy alternative somewhere between working with an official event staffing company (a little too formal for our needs) and hiring strangers from the jungle that is Craigslist (a little too anxiety-provoking for our mothers). I like Taskrabbit, but I couldn't tell how active the site is in our area; also thinking about university job boards or where to find folks who do this freelance.

Thanks!

Hello, we are looking for ideas of where to hold a brunch on a Sunday after a Saturday wedding.    Ideally somewhere in the greater Somerville/Cambridge area.    Obviously many of our favorite brunch places are already packed on Sunday mornings and/or don't have an appropriate space for that type of gathering.

Hello, looking for ideas for restaurants that have function rooms available for private events anywhere in Somerville or Cambridge.   Holding 100 people would be ideal, but looking for any ideas.

I'm going to be using two Davis Square locations for my July wedding and I'm wondering the best way to handle parking as neither of the venues have their own lots. My guest list is about 100 people and I'm already planning to urge people to take public transit/park at Alewife or carpool (my reception should be ending at 11pm/midnight at the latest, so the T should still be running).

I can't remember since I moved last year - if people decide they still want to drive their own car, is parking on-street and in the pay lots still free on Sunday nights? If not, does anyone here have experience with businesses letting people park outside of business hours with advance permission? For free or for a small fee?
EDIT: Ron has informed me that residential parking is free on Sundays, so I think that should be good enough for our needs.

Also, the two locations are about .4 miles apart and it's just not enough to justify some kind of fancy-pants transportation. If it's a nice day, most of the wedding party/guesst could probably just hoof it (as it wouldn't even make sense for anyone to move their car). However, we do have a few older people/people with disabilities attending and I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend an extremely reliable cab company - I would likely call in advance, the night before and then the day of to confirm pick up. Otherwise, I'll probably have a few relatives drive from point A to point B and then go back to a lot.

Thanks!

I'm currently looking for a photographer who would be interested in shooting a wedding ceremony and about 10-12 posed shots post ceremony next July (07/07/12 to be exact). The reason I'm looking so early is because we're planning to move at the end of this month (to California) but are still having a Davis Square area wedding since both our families live locally. Preferably, we'd like to meet the photographer in person before we move.

We would probably also be open to an enthusiast with a good camera as we're only looking for about an hour and half of actual shooting time and we're not looking for anything super fancy for post aside from a copy of the raw images. Professionals are also welcome but we're aware that Saturdays in July are busy and that some might not be interested in shooting only for an hour and half when they could be shooting for 4 or 5 hours on a higher paying job. But, hey, maybe there's someone out there who'd like a lighter day.

Where are the best places around to shop for a wedding dress? (The relevant tag seems mostly concerned with alterations.)

Um, particularly if one is not of the type who has thought about such things all their life (or, y'know, ever) and thus had no idea how far in advance people expect you to plan and so the event is a little over a month away leaving no time for the apparently usual 2-3 month wait. (Speaking entirely theoretically, of course, because no reasonable person would be in such a situation, right?)

Even better would be great places to rent a dress, because it seems absurd to buy one when I'll only need it the once. (Why is it so much easier to rent a tuxedo, an item whose owner could reasonably wear it time and again?)

I need to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed, and I'd love to hear some recommendations. My two requirements:
1. Must be good with formal dresses. This is a satin dress with an organza panel, so a messy hem will be obvious.
2. Must be reliable on time. I have a month, which I assume will be plenty of time. But it's an out-of-town wedding, so if the ETA is cutting it close, I won't have any "I need an extra day" kind of wiggle room! Can't just pick up morning-of! Etc.

I promise I'm not a difficult customer, I'm just paranoid. :) It was a bit of a fiasco getting this dress in the first place, so if anything goes wrong I don't believe I'll be able to get a replacement.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I haven't had to have a formal dress altered since I moved to the Boston area, so I have NO personal experience and searching for a list of local seamstresses is just daunting and so uncertain.

Edit: Thanks for all the input! I think I'm going to give Jack and Elegant a call today to start, since they're so close, and go from there.

I never got around to making a dedicated post about this, but a few months ago I became a JP and, well, I'm available to officiate local marriage ceremonies and also help write your vows, should you wish. The ceremonies I've done so far have gone beautifully, and I just wanted to get it out there that I'm happy to help put together any kind of marriage ceremony your heart desires.

Keep on loving!

anyone know of a place that does same-day steam cleaning for clothes? (these would be fancy wedding clothes for the mother and father of the bride, flying in from out of town...)

ideally this place would be in east arlington or davis square, but any suggestions would be welcome at this point. thanks!

Can anybody suggest a jewelry store close by that has a nice assortment of tungsten wedding bands to choose from?

I have some wedding magazines (from the last year or so) gathering dust. They probably have some things clipped out here and there, but they're mostly intact and good for ideas.  Let me know if you want them! I have 3 Martha Stewart Weddings, 2 Brides, 1 Bridal Guide.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a seamstress to make the dress I have in my head for me.  Has anyone had good experience with any locals in making a garment start to finish, from a description and/or pictures from you?

So I'm in a wedding that is on a Sunday and due to logistics I cannot get my hair and make up done with the Bridesmaids (i'm actually a groomswoman) and need a recommendation of a place nearish Davis where I can at least get my hair done for the wedding.

The catch is that its a Sunday and my regular salon (Salon Femia) is closed, anyone have any recommendations?

Hi everyone!

I have a wedding dress I need cleaned and preserved. I looked on Yelp for possible suggestions, but I can't seem to find anything about this specific service. Does anyone have any experience with this in the Somerville area? Thanks in advance!

Can anyone recommend a good travel agent in the area? I don't usually use one, I'm not sure if anyone does anymore, but I'm trying to plan a honeymoon. (Why are they called honeymoons? I just wrote that out and it looked dumb).

Thanks!

Would anyone recommend an excellent wedding DJ from the general Boston area?

Thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations for a tailor for a bridesmaid gown. Someone nearer to Davis is better of course, though I do have a car, and if they are open after 5 PM and/or on weekends, even better still.

Thanks!
