LJ has never had good search tools.

There is an LJSeek form on the davis_square profile page, but it does not seem to be working right now. I wonder whether LJSeek even still exists. Even when it works, it's a fairly crappy search engine.

A better bet is probably to go to the Google Advanced Search form and enter either community.livejournal.com/davis_square or davis_square.livejournal.com under "Search within a site or domain". Unfortunately those two strings give different result sets, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get Google to OR them properly.

well because there used to be the little gray square icons across the top of the user info pages, which are now gone, and one was the little magnifying glass. it seems to just be gone, while the others have moved mostly to the upper right (add friend, etc).

not that it was great, as you mentioned, but it was sometimes helpful though mostly when i was looking for things on the b0st0n community. but i'm still burned they 'redesigned' the user info.

Google also has a Blog Search (http://blogsearch.google.com/) feature that seems to work pretty well if you use "davis_square" as one of your search terms. I'm not sure if you'd get different results than using your method.

When I want to search communities I do:
"search term" inurl:"community name" site:community.livejournal.com

and put that in google

edit: so what you want would be- "garden room" inurl:davis_square site:community.livejournal.com

If you've tried any of the search instructions that I and other folks just gave, you probably found this post from September 2007. I don't understand why LJ no longer displays the photo that used to be part of that post. See also the Somerville Journal blog discussion that it links to.

It's basically the space of a 2-bedroom but configured as a 1-bedroom. The kitchen is large and the whole place has a spacious feel. Might be able to negotiate a bit too.
