Remember the Salt & Pepper Cafe?

At least 10 years ago, probably longer, there was a cafe in the place Dave's Fresh Pasta currently occupies. I'm pretty sure it was called the Salt & Pepper Cafe.

They used to sell biscuits; in particular, they sold the MOST delicious sweet potato biscuits I've ever eaten in my entire life. I've tried replicating them from various recipes I've found with no luck whatsoever.

Does anyone know who used to own that place and how to get in touch with him/her/them? Maybe I can get the recipe from them...

This is a shot in the dark, but might help:

A Google search for "Salt & Pepper Cafe" Somerville has a few hits identifying the owner as Robin Peevey. Fortunately, this is an unusual name. WhitePages.com lists a Robin Peevey in Melrose (as does Facebook), and Google finds someone with this name working as an administrator at Northeastern University (and formerly at Lesley University).

Good luck -- and let us all know if these leads are helpful.

I know Robin and, yes, this is the same person.

I have no leads on the S&P Cafe itself, but The Independent in Union Square has an awesome sweet potato biscuits and gravy dish for brunch. Sweet potato biscuits seem fairly uncommon so maybe giving those a shot would sate your craving while you track down the originals?

A friend of a friend used to be the manager. Last I checked, she wasn't sharing the biscuit recipes with ANYONE.

If you find them, please post - or just let me know? They had the best pumpkin bread I've ever had. Ever. I have extremely positive memories of sitting in that cafe, eating a slice of pumpkin bread, drinking coffee, and reading a book on my lunch break for several weeks on end.

Wow, seeing Salt & Pepper Cafe mentioned brings back memories! -sigh-

Hi, did my lead (or anything else) help you find the owner, the cook, or the recipe?
