Davis Enterprise office closing

The Enterprise branch in Davis will be closing at the end of the month. They say they're looking for a new location on Mass Ave, but it'll never be as convenient to the T as the current spot, and it'll take a while to get set up, in any case.

I suspect that Zipcar has been cutting into their business 'round these parts.

Problems with the location? It's a great location for a rental car place!

Harvard Square has a Avis in the Charles Hotel. There's also a thrifty in the hotel on Mt Auburn. Both are as-close as the Enterprise in Davis.

There's an rental place just outside of Porter Square on Mass Ave (by the Cambridge Commons). Maybe a block further from a T station than the Enterprise.

There's a rental place just south of Central Square on Mass Ave (which is a few blocks further from a T station).

Many car rental places will pick you up, as well. So its hardly the only T convient rental place.

The second one is Alamo/National, which is about halfway between Harvard and Porter Squares (and a pretty long walk from either if you're carrying bags).

unless it's changed, the one in central is also an Enterprise, and I think it's closer to the T than the Davis one.

I think it makes more sense for a rental place to be near Alewife. It's kind of a stupid waste of space in Davis.

I disagree, as a car-rental place is very useful in a crowded neighborhood where many residents don't own their own cars.

But "near Alewife" would be just as convenient for Davisites, really -- if you're renting a car, you're probably taking a pretty big trip, so taking the T one stop and walking a bit (or biking a mile) is not going to be much more of an imposition. And if you weren't taking a big trip but needed a car, you were already using Zipcar, which is all through the Davis area.

I'm sorry to hear this. I can't imagine what else would move into that building, though. Does the landlord want to tear it down and build something new?

Thrifty rent-a-car is in the Harvard Square hotel at Brattle and Eliot, a short walk from that T station.

Enterprise has another location on River Street in Cambridge, very close to Central Square station.

Still, neither of these is nearly as convenient as the one we're losing.

We never used that one. And I didn't even know that it was available (it seems just storage to me). We used to go to the one in Lexington sort of near the Arlington Trader Joes, and just off of the Minuteman path. That one seemed to be the cheapest of them all.

Oh, sorry, I stand corrected, my husband just told me that he's only used the Lexington one once. Usually he uses the Enterprise in Medford (which he says is right near Harvard Ave and 93).

good, i'm glad. i've rented from there three times in the past two weeks for work and the cars are parked crazily everywhere because they have no room. they do a surprisingly brisk business there, though, and i'm annoyed that they are posing it as "we're moving - to 37 mystic ave!" without mentioning how not-red-line-accessible it is which is kind of the whole point of the davis location. oh well.

That address is pretty close to Sullivan station which is probably convenient for some folks, but not for us in Greater Davis. It would make more sense to send people to their Central Square location.

Okay...I grew up in Northern California. I have to admit, the subject of this post kinda freaked me out a little at first. (http://www.davisenterprise.com/)

LOL. (by the way, the top story on that page today is pretty sad - Farewell to Tower Records)

awww, not only were they wicked convenient (could walk to pick up the car from my house when my car was in the shop) but they were super nice too.

bummer
