Pescatore and Soundbites are open

There is lots happening in Ball Sq. Pescatore, Italian Seafood Grill, on the corner of Rogers Ave and Boston Ave is finally open! The menu looks good if you love seafood--the only non seafood items are chicken fingers and salad, from what I can remember after taking a peek at the menu. I plan on trying it out tonight.
Soundbites is now in its new location next door, where El Guapo used to be. It opened for breakfast-lunch last Wednesday, and I spoke with Yassir the other day, he hopes to have it open for dinner this week.

So what will be where Soundbites was? Or are they expanding to three locations now?

The rumor is true. See below. :-)

There was still a line at the new Soundbites location on Saturday and Sunday, so Victor may just want to pick off the stragglers before they make it to Kelly's.

I forgot to ask Yassir what's going in the old SoundBites space. Anyone know?

Okay, I just now got the scoop from Yassir himself. The landlord kicked SoundBites out, and the landlord is, according to Yasir, "an asshole." But get this -- the landlord kicked out SoundBites so he could open his OWN breakfast place! I guess the landlord was sick of seeing his tenant making money hand over fist and wanted it himself. But little did he know Yassir was going to move into the El Guapo space right next door.

The old landlord is still opening the breakfast place anyway. Total recipe for failure. Yassir says the other place will last 6 months, if that, and that "he might get a few customers when my line is extra long."

Drama: It's what's for breakfast!

LOL. Sound-bites 4-life

Score! Pescatore is maybe 300 feet from me. I just had a fish sandwich. It was adequate.

I had some fried Calamari there tonight. It was simple, but delicious. I like the family who owns the place too. They seem genuine.

Are they a fish monger as well, like the old place?

No, they sell takeout seafood dinners, and also some frozen seafood-based stuff (eg lobster ravioli).

So far that's only what they do. But they have a real dining restaurant in the back that can't open up until they get some legal approval.

Soundbites seemed to be be happening, jumping even when we drove by late Saturday night.

If it's true that Victor's owns the old Soundbites and plans to move in there, he should just expand the seating capacity for his lunch business! It's the best place for a quick, cheap, semi-homemade lunch around, but there's not enough seating space!

Pescatore

I talked to the youngest daughter while picking up my Fried Clam Plate and encouraged them to do some simple things like putting the menu online and adding announcements to foodie boards (like chowhound) and local boards like this. Nice people but not very internet savvy.

Like "billharnois" my main interest in seeing them succeed is that I live on the same block. More easy eating options == good. On that note: Urban Gourmet construction seems to have stalled. The ladders and stuff inside haven't moved in weeks. That might be because Yassir is spending all his time on Sound Bites. Still, I can't imagine all the money they have lost leaving the place fallow for so long (8 months now?).
