SoundBites Open for Dinner Starting Tonight

I just walked by SoundBites, and tonight is their first night serving dinner. I only got a quick glance at the menu, but it seems to be a mix of Mediterranean, Italian and Italian-American, probably some burgers though I didn't see the whole menu. If you haven't had dinner, I'm sure folks here would love a first report. :-)

Soundbites has been serving what sounds like that menu across the street at their grill for quite a while. I've had dinner there before. Sounds like they took this menu to their new larger space?

Could be, indeed. I've never gone into that other Soundbites, so I don't know the menu. Doesn't seem like there's much point in they're keeping both places open...

Dinner Had.

I had dinner there just a few hours ago. The menu seems to focus on pastas and fish, with italo/med/middle eastern oriented apps. There's some crossover with the place across the street in style but not in technique. I'm not clear whether the purveyors are the same (I would assume so), but this one seems scratch-made and sit-down while the Grille is deep-fry and delivery. While across the street there's ziti with steam-table red sauce, this side has piccata with shallots and capers.

Speaking of which, I had the piccata while my friend had the pork chop special. I was pleased to see that the pasta was well seasoned, which can sometimes be a problem around Davis (I'm talking to you, Antonia's). The rack of lamb had been frenched nicely.

I'm sorry to say that I've forgotten the name of my app already. To my whitey palate, it was a modified ajvar with pomegranate juice, which added a nice zing. It was lovely.

I try not to give grades after only one visit, but I saw the post and decided to respond. So far, I'm pleased. Not to mention Yasser, Jaime and the crew all had friends stopping by to wish them well, which was fun.

Was there tonight and had the chicken parm which was good but my friend had the fish and chips and that was great! Next time it will most certainly be the fish and chips for me.

Also noticed that the animosity between Yassir and Victors still exists! About 9pm a city garbage truck rolled up right in front of both places and out came the victors owner along with his construction debris and this made yassir pretty pissed. So much so he went out and started taking photos with his phone and the two owners had words (as I would expect) and nothing much came of it other than getting yassir upset. All inall pretty much going to be more exciting watching the two owners coexist than anything else.
