Holland Street Cafe goin' Turkish?

I saw a sign in the once-again-closed Holland Street Cafe saying that it was going to soon open as a Turkish restaurant- the name was something like "Istanbul-Lal".

Hopefully they'll do more then put up a new sign and sell the same food- it did say Turkish Coffee and Tapas, whatever that means...

Nice, I sort of miss Turkish food since I moved here (I'm originally from Germany where Turkish food is available everywhere :)

I was about to post the same thing, so thanks for doing it first. Is Turkish food similar to Greek food?

From what little I remember in my short-lived tenure as the girlfriend of a Turk, it's quite similar.

Some of it is, some of it is more like Middle Eastern food.

Oooh, I just saw that and was like, must tell DSLJ! :)

Yeah... We actually make it at home every morning and bring home a dozen vacuum packed boxes every time we go to Croatia, but I tend to order it at restaurants when they have it. :)

there's some overlap.

The Brookline Family Restaurant is a very pleasant (though diner-esque in decor) Turkish restaurant, which may not be apparent from its name. It's right in Brookline Village near the T.

It may not be worth a trip, but if you're over there I recommend it. The food is yummy and inexpensive.

Doner and gyros are all pretty similar (as is shawarma). Eggplant is also a staple of both cuisines.

There's more allspice in Turkish food, which may be a bug or a feature for you (I have a friend who hates allspice, but I adore it).

I also think that Turkish borek are better than Greek boureki (phyllo-dough pies with savory fillings). On the other hand, spanakopita.
