My favorite is Pini's. I love their buffalo chicken, mexican, or bacon ranch and chicken pizzas (all very healthy!). :)

[identity profile] rosiewoodboat.livejournal.com 2012-11-05 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Pini's!

[identity profile] masslibrulgirl.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded! I love Pini's. Especially their potato and bacon pizza....nom.

Don't forget to order from Woody's and Wang's while you're there.

[identity profile] mamajoan.livejournal.com 2012-11-05 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Pini's is good, but when I got tired of them, I switched to Cristo's and I like them very much also. I've only tried Eat at Jumbo's once. I liked it, but my kids didn't, so it's off our list, alas.

You may be interested in this post from 2008 (http://davis-square.livejournal.com/1253726.html) in which DSLJ members were polled on their favorite local pizza places. Of course, lots of places have closed and opened in that time, but still.

[identity profile] emcicle.livejournal.com 2012-11-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Cristo's in Davis? we used to order from them, but I think they charged a delivery fee, so they went off our list a while ago. :)

and yeah, i do sometimes get sick of pizza from the same place all the time.

oh, and i miss Zing! as well.

This poll is over four years old. It's probably time for a new one, but meanwhile, enjoy reading it...

ETA: I see [livejournal.com profile] mamajoan got here before me with that link, but here's the discussion, also from 2008, that led up to the poll.

3 out of 4 members of my household love Pinky's, and the fourth is finicky and doesn't actually like cheese, so I'm not sure he counts. :)

[identity profile] emcicle.livejournal.com 2012-11-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard Pinky's is very good. do they deliver?

Do any of the local pizza places do standard Italian pizza well? So many of the local places are actually Greek. Angelina's did well for us for a while, but then they started getting inconsistent. I haven't found a new favorite yet.

After trying a bunch of places, I've now settled on Caprese Pizza, which is on Medford Street in Magoun Square. My second go-to place would be Pranzi's over on Winthrop Street in Medford.

I'm a fan of City Slickers. The pizza is kind of on the greasy side, but the crust is crispy and delicious, and they have a lot of excellent topping options, including goat cheese.

They don't delivery, but if you happen to be in close-ish walking distance of Pescatore, in Ball Square, I am a big fan - plain pizza satisfies picky kids, toppinged pizza make me think of what you might get for "fast food" when traveling in a tourist town in Italy or along the Adriatic.

I second the vote for City Slicker Cafe. If you don't mind the wait time (45 - 60m for delivery) the pizzas are delicious.

[identity profile] rmd.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
city slicker is my go-to. caprese is a solid second.

[identity profile] pywaket.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I like City Slickers a lot. Never tried Caprese, but I will now :-)

For reference, City Slickers used to be in Ball Square, where Eat At Jumbos is now.

When it was in Ball Square, it was called Urban Gourmet.

I'll caveat my above recommendation for Pinky's & City Slickers by saying that I haven't found anywhere that delivers a really awesome crust. Either brick-oven style (chewy with charred outside) or thin and crispy cracker crust style would be amazing; Pinky's crust is thick and sort of doughy but decent, and City Slicker is more of the oily Greek style.

[identity profile] pywaket.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want brick oven style, definitely try out Posto. Their crusts are *awesome* - chewy with the charred outside just like you like. Even if I'm not getting a pizza when having dinner there, I always get an order of the rosemary flatbread, served with chili oil. it's not cheap, but definitely worth the price.

We in West Medford used to order from Pini's, but then we discovered Joe Pizza. They're on High Street (Rt. 60). Unfortunately, they don't deliver. At least they didn't least I heard.. they Yelp page says they do. (too lazy to post links)

The closest thing to Zing (although no delivery) is Otto in Harvard Square. There is at least one person now working at Otto who used to work at Zing (and they were very forthcoming with some old Zing recipes).

[identity profile] teko.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man. If Otto ever brings back Zing's Blue October....

I do Pizza Days, mainly because they're cheap on Mondays and Tuesdays

[identity profile] pekmez.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Pizza Days disturbs me because they are located in a former auto garage, still next to an active auto detailing shop, and I can't get past the thought that the pizza might smell or taste like the air around there often does (car paint and VOCs, yum!) I have never tried them though.

I know I'm old-school, but I love Dial-A-Pizza for their thick-ish crust.

I liked Davis Square Pizza (corner of Willow & Highland), but I haven't tried it since their new ownership.
