Taco Bell / KFC ??

Does anyone know what happened to the Taco Bell / KFC on Mass Ave? It's all boarded up. It was a pretty gross place, but the only close TBell around.

I got this e-mail from the Porter Square Neighbors list a few days ago. I'd been thinking of posting it somewhere on LJ, so I guess this is the place.

----------------
From Craig Kelley

Folks:

Some of you have asked me what is going on with the KFC at the junction of
Mass Ave and Walden Street. I talked with the owner the other day, and this
is what he told me:

Roughly 33-40% of that site's business used to come in off of Walden Street,
and with the bridge closed the owner had trouble keeping it open, especially
since the closure is forecasted to last until late in 2008. He has a
long-term lease on the property and had recently put money into renovating
the restaurant. He may be able to put another use there. In addition to
this KFC, he has about a dozen more sites, including the one on Hampshire
Street, and it is not clear how much the business from the North Cambridge
KFC will switch over to his other sites.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this or any other issue.

Thanks.

Though a lot of the people there are here as well, you could post this on the community.livejournal.com/porter_square community.

Good idea, done.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2007-02-22 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
but why would you want a Taco Bell when there are so many other Mexican places scattered between Teele, Davis, Ball, and Union squares?
(deleted comment)

Hmmmm, "mexican"

Yeah, about every six months or so I'd want to go back to my high school ways and get some of that tasty/awful Taco Bell goodness/bad-for-you-ness. Alas, we shall have to go without. At least in Porter Square.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2007-02-22 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you may as well check out this today. It's just a couple blocks from the former Taco Bell.

seconded. The Grilled Stufft Burrito rocks my world (as does the Nachos Bell Grande), although if the Porter Square store is run by the same people as the Hampshire Street location, I doubt the food would have been any good. I haven't found Taco Bell yet that's close to how good it is in RI. I've been hitting Qdoba for my occasional nachos fix.

You need to hit the suburbs for good Taco Bell. I worked at the one (now closed) in Milford, and we done did it right.

And the price is right.

the other places don't have that special "staph seasoning" that only taco bell knows :)

[identity profile] vanguardcdk.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw mann..I used to go there fairly often (and always afterwards my stomach would plead with me to stop torturing it...). I liked being able to get my combo tacos and chicken strips.

Oh well..guess I'll just have to get my Taco Bell awful-ness at the Galleria.

The Hampshire street location isn't that far of a walk, in reality. Though it's closer to Central than Porter or Davis, when you get down to it.

[identity profile] vanguardcdk.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Very true...hmmm and perhps the healthiness of the walk there will counter-act the nastiness of the food. ;)

bus 83 goes there. You can pick it up in front of the closed KFC ;-)

I've had a terrible craving for KFC and now it will go unfilled. Who has good fried chicken in Davis?

[identity profile] secretlyironic.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Redbones does fried chicken and chicken-fried steak.

[identity profile] cook-ting.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? Well that sounds like a challenge my stomach is willing to accept.

[identity profile] readsalot.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Are those new? When I look at their menu (http://redbones.com/dinner.html) I see fried fish and seafood, but no fried chicken or steak.

[identity profile] secretlyironic.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the chicken-fried steak is a special only once or twice a week. I'm pretty sure I've had fried chicken there...

I know Jasper White's does fried chicken too.

if you really need it, there's a Taco Bell / KFC on Broadway in East Somerville, near Foss Park.

[identity profile] sugersh.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd been wondering about that. Now where will I get my greasy-batter-coated potato wedges?

Life is so damned hard.

Oh man, just on Tuesday a friend said she was craving KFC and I told her, "Well, there's one over near Central... No, wait, I always forget that one on Mass Ave!" Looks like I wasn't the only one. Sorry, KFC, I failed you.

[identity profile] aki.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
As a reminder, since no one seems to have mentioned it, there's a Taco Belin the Cambridgeside Galleria as well.
