late night food?

It's been a couple of years and I'm still mourning for Dolly's. Is there any late night food near Davis Square these days? (Things like Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's do not count!)

Nothing in Somerville is allowed to be open past midnight.
For that you need to walk up to Mass. Ave.and hit Cambridge.

I'm not sure how late Christopher's is open.
It's by Porter - about 10 mins. walking from Davis.

The closest thing to it is the Bickfords along Broadway in the Winter Hill/East Somerville area. Think you can take the 89 bus to get it. And I'm pretty sure Dolly's closed before the midnight restriction really took effect. (Shame, that. It was a good place to get chicken fingers.)

The Bickfords, being in Somerville, wouldn't be open past midnight anyway.
How late is the diner on Broadway open?

[identity profile] jadasc.livejournal.com 2002-01-29 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can until 11pm or so, right? ;) And doesn't it run till 1am on some nights?

It would be great if the Rosebud were allowed to be open late. I never knew places had to close at Midnight in Somerville. That should be revised or revoked.

If they revoked it, Store 18 might actually be a real Store 24.

[identity profile] artemii.livejournal.com 2002-01-29 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
But then we wouldn't have the fun of calling it Store 18!

We always called it "the faux sto' twenny-fo'." You know, for the rhyme and all.

Nothing that you could reach on the T after 12.

I almost flunked out of High School because of Dolly's. Lisa had to be one of the nicest people I've ever met. I never did find out why she had to close down, but they had immunity to the Somerville Blue Laws.

The last of the All-nighters are Buzzy's Roastbeef (Redline, Charles/MGH) and the South St. Diner and the Blue Diner-[closed for renovations, reopening soon as 'The New Blue'] both near South Station on the Redline.

There are also a few out of town diners that are 24hr for most of the week, like the Club Diner in Lowell.
Your only other options are the various Bickfords in the suburbs. Many of which have been forced to go non-smoking. Somerville forces everything to close at 12, with execption to the Winter Hill Bickford's which is open til 1am, -occasionally.

There are a few food stands that are located by Landsdown, like "The Sausage Guy". BUt you have to hunt for them.

On a sidenote:
Does anyone know what happened to Curious Liquids?
They had their building bought out from underneath them, across from the State House (near Park St.).
They promised to relocate, but its been over two years now.

I think they sold their recipes to a nearby bagel place, but I can't remember the name of the place.

Yeah, the furniture from curious was moved to this basement of a cafe on Tremont across from Park Street. I can't remember the name, but they have wraps and sandwiches and bagels...might be the bagel plus cafe? Sadly, I'd never made it to curious before it closed down, and now the furniture sits lonely and chilly in an old basement. It would be a great spot to gather friends at though. Quiet and spacious!

If it's nasty out and you don't want to travel, get a DiningIn guide. I think you can get it online or something. Anyway, they're a delivery service for a ton of restaurants until pretty late as far as I can remember. When I have "late night munchies," the last thing I want to do is have to go out... ^_^

since the ihop near bu closed we figured out there's another all night one on memorial drive. of course you have to have a car to get there in the middle of the night, but that really goes for most things around here (not counting walking distance things).

hehe, yeah. but you did say cambride was okay (i know porter doesnt really count as strictly cambridge) - i just figured it was closer than me saying go downtown and look for shitty pizza.

late nights in Davis

Not exactly diner like, but the Cambridge Commons, that restaurant next to the Lizard Lounge on Mass. Ave between Porter and Harvard is open till 2am, I think. It's cheap and not too bad food wise. The sweet potato fries are the best!

Kaya's Japanese Resurant is open

[identity profile] trysha.livejournal.com 2002-03-19 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
They are open until like 2am on weeknights and 3am on weekends.

I spent waaaaay to much money on sushi when i lived in porter at that place.
