Ward 7 ResiStat meeting tonight

If you live in Ward 7, you may want to attend your ward's ResiStat meeting tonight at 7 pm in the TAB Building, 167 Holland Street.

From the ResiStat page: "The goal of ResiStat is to hold regular meetings with residents, most in ward-based groups and a few for specific populations. At these meetings, residents give their feedback to SomerStat staff and elected officials about their experience of living in Somerville and receiving City services. Suggestions and comments are recorded and brought back to City staff, and status updates are given at subsequent meetings".

(Ward 7 is everything west of Kingston Street, Thorndike Street, Simpson Ave, Burnham St, and Packard Avenue. Ward 6 will have its own ResiStat meeting on November 5 at 7 pm at First Congregational Church, 89 College Ave.)

EDIT: Read the comments about Hodgkins Park to see why I added the "parks" tag.

Davis Square on Wikipedia!

I stumbled across the Davis Sq. page on Wikipedia recently, and and found it to be insulting and a shambles. I did what I could to tidy it up and give a proper shout-out to the neighborhood, but my knowledge of the square is limited and out of date. (I lived near Davis Sq. for years until I moved to Australia a year ago.)

If you have five minutes, take a look at the page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davis_Square) and add your bit to the collective knowledge of the world!  It's like the ultimate opportunity to represent.  Any info on the history and public art of the square would be especially helpful.  Thanks!

Seeking a therapist - need recommendations

Hi, folks. I am writing because am interested to find a therapist. I would like to work with a provider who is experienced with one or more of the following:

- major depressive disorder
- anxiety disorders
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- borderline personality disorder/symptoms
- adult survivors of child abuse (not necessarily sexual)
- LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) people

The provider's age, sex, gender identity, skin color, level of physical ability, etc are irrelevant. The provider's religion is not necessarily an issue, given that they do not believe that non-believers and/or queer people are "going to hell", or otherwise slated for a less pleasant fate than believers.

I would prefer to work with someone who is:

* unfazed by people who are "different". While I am fairly normal-looking, I have experienced homelessness, I am queer, and I have certain beliefs about the power of ritual and the nature of reality which are somewhat unique. While the provider need not be coming from the same place, I believe that I will be best served by receiving treatment from a truly open-minded, accepting provider.

* naturally warm and kind. I am quite sensitive to any level of a brusque, dismissive or judgmental attitude, I cannot tolerate it in a clinical setting. I imagine that discussing the things I need to talk about will be painful; and I believe it will be safest for me to open up to a truly gentle soul.

* extremely intelligent. After several ill-fated attempts at treatment with various providers, I have determined that this attribute is necessary in a provider, in order for me to receive the full benefit of treatment.

* MBTA-accessible, though immediate proximity to Davis Square is not necessary (see below).

I am grateful for your willingness to listen, and I hope you will respond. If you prefer not to respond in an LJ comment, please email me, at [my LJ username]@gmail.com - this may be useful if you wish to recommend a provider outside of Davis Square. Feel free to email me if you would like to receive the list of recommended providers, minus the names of the persons recommending.

I thank you, very much, and I wish you good health.

November meetup

Its time to decide where to meet for next month. We need to have a general discussion about possible places. We've had multiple meetups at Joe Sent Me and PJ Ryans, so perhaps we should try for a new place.

Please make some suggestions about possible places. I think any bars in Davis, along Mass Ave from Porter to North Cambridge, Teele Square, and Ball Square would be good. Ideally, we would need a bar that could seat a large group and is not super packed every night of the week.

I'll take your suggestions under consideration and make some visits and see what I can come up with.

Got veg?

For people in the Boston area who are vegetarian or vegan, or just like to eat such types of food every once in a while:

You don't need a love of tofu in order to join, but it doesn't hurt either!

Rock Band is TONIGHT!!

Yes, TONIGHT!!!

Come on down to Orleans (65 Holland Street, Davis Square, Somerville) and get prepared for some sweet Rock Band 2 action. With over 350 songs to play, Rock Banders or all skill levels are guaranteed a good time. I said guaranteed, dammit!

We'll get things started around 9pm and go until close (1am).

I will see you there!!

Find It, Enjoy It

On College Ave near Kidder this morning, my foot kicked something metal and lightweight, but I was in a hurry so didn't stop to see what it was. Turns out it was my favorite Obama button, which had fallen off my bag without my noticing. Oh well, I can certainly buy another one. My hope now is that it gets found by someone who is glad to have it and will wear/display it, or give it to someone who will. Maybe you?

Grove St. Odor

I recently moved from Gorham St. to Winsow Ave., and in doing so have walked a little more frequently on Grove St.

Has the stench - and I think it's coming from McKinnon's, but could be wrong - from the dumpster behind McKinnons through Cristo's always been there?  I mean, it can really knock you over.  I love McKinnon's, but am getting a little ascared of buying stuff from them, although I'm also assuming that the smell is more from refuse in their dumpster than anything they're selling.

Maybe I just never noticed it before?  I would think there would have been a complaint...
