The folks who do the free Saturday morning yoga (Some.Yoga.Studio) will also be holding summer solstice yoga events tomorrow evening.

6PM: Vinyasa Flow
7PM: Detox Flow

Free, but you have to register at the Assembly page.

From the Assembly Square newsletter:

Summer Yoga
Join us next Saturday, May 7 at 9am for our first session of Free Summer Yoga Saturdays. All you need is your mat! Registration is required, and you can sign up online beginning at noon each preceding Friday. Day of registration will be available only if space permits, so don't forget to reserve your spot!

I love this. It's a great way to start your Saturday. There are times in July where there's gotta be 100 people there. The registration piece is actually handy, then you don't have to fill out the waiver on site. I set a noon reminder on my calendar for Friday to be sure to remember to sign up (they really don't open the registration until noonish Friday). Then you go to the Assembly Row site, click the "Play" navigation, and on Fridays a sign-up link will be available under the yoga section.

Hey folks--

I've been attending the free Assembly Row yoga now for 2 years. And the folks who did this year's classes are from this relatively new studio in town: Some.Yoga.Studio

They have special pricing to try it out if you start sometime this month ($30). Then you get 30 days to try the classes.

http://www.someyogastudio.com/#!schedule/c24kn

I tried them now for a couple of weeks and I like them a lot. But, of course, you should try them yourself because people have different preferences on this, I know.

I am not affiliated with them, I am merely rewarding their good behavior of being good neighbors and having so much free yoga all summer. And I would love for this woman-owned small biz near my house to succeed. It's a short walk for me :).

I just found out yesterday from the folks on the @AtAssemblyRow twitter feed that free yoga in the park starts up again on May 2. So on Saturdays, 9am, bring your yoga mat out for some delightful waterfront yoga.

They also said it was hosted by Some Yoga Studio this time. http://www.someyogastudio.com/

Here's what I know, haven't seen other official announcements so far: https://twitter.com/AtAssemblyRow/status/588828787770597377

Hey folks--I know it's over the other side of the hill, but I saw the free yoga class over at Assembly Square this evening, and it looked delightful. Just a public service announcement.

Assembly Row details: http://www.assemblyrow.com/#play Tuesday evenings 6pm, Saturday morning 9am.

I didn't take the yoga class today because I've signed up for the boot camp (not free) that's right after it on Tuesdays. But there were almost 40 people at the yoga session.

I just took at "Crazy 8's" interval training class up at Soul.Train Fitness on Broadway in Teele Square, and it was awesome. They just got voted best gym in Somerville Scout (OK, that's probably a small sample, but still - I was really impressed).

It was also free. At the risk of being crowded out next week by everyone else, I figured I'd share the love and let people know they're having some specials for August:
Tuesday 6PM interval training: Free
Personal training: 10% off
Thursday night 7:15 yoga: 50% off  ($7 for drop-in classes instead of $14)
New clients, first 6:30 AM, Yoga, or Pilates class: Free

I'm not part of the group that runs this, but it's a really cool place that just opened up, and I thought you [livejournal.com profile] davis_square-ites might like to know about it.

As described on the page of their IndieGoGo campaign (which is now over),  the Climate Justice Hub is: "A dedicated space for planning campaigns, hosting community meetings, holding trainings and teach-ins, making art, bringing people together, & much more."

It's located at 14 Chapel Street, on the third floor of the Holy Baptist Bible Church on College Ave. They have lots of events, which you can see on their calendar.

I've already been to both a letter-writing party and a yoga/meditation class, and it's a really inspiring space and group of people.  If you're at all interested in climate justice, I recommend checking it out!

My husband is interested in taking up yoga. Who knows of some local studios that would offer good classes for male beginners?

There is a new privately owned fitness studio in Teele called soul.train.

For all the good things I have to say, it's still rather expensive for this part-time working grad student ($14 for one class, $60 for 5, or $100 for 10, and I would happily go 3x/week if it were unlimited) so I also wanted to use this post to ask if anybody's been to the Zumba classes at the Work Out World on Boston Ave in Medford, which would be much cheaper for me in the long run, but they won't let me try a class before paying a $50 joining fee and committing to a $20/month membership. I am very picky about my Zumba classes, so I don't want to make that kind of commitment without knowing anything about them, and that's the only thing I'd need the gym membership for.

(Also, speaking of new things in Teele, there's a new consignment store there as well called Talya's Place. I haven't gone in yet but it looks cute!)

Hey guys, I just thought I'd alert the community to new(ish) yoga classes in Powderhouse Square, at Mass Metta Massage (on the side with Subway and Toni & Ana's). There's one 5.45 pm Mondays, and one 7.45 pm Tuesdays; they're vinyasa by approach and adapt well to any level. The room is pretty small and only fits seven students, so it's a good idea to reserve a spot beforehand by emailing emily@massmettamassage.com or calling 617.955.3036. They're $11 (+$1 if you rent a mat), and 75 minutes long.

I'm not associated except as a student--and somebody THRILLED to have a yoga option in Powderhouse. Patty is one of the best teachers I've had, and I wish these classes to prosper.

Good for 2 Weeks of Unlimited Yoga Classes at Majestic Yoga Studio. Expires November 17th. I bought it for $25, I'd love to get $20 back for it.

The deal: http://www.groupon.com/boston/deals/majestic-yoga-studio

Majestic is supposed to be a beautiful studio, located west of Porter Square - definitely bike-able from Davis, and they have a parking lot. Read the raving Yelps here:

I've been going to the Boston Sports Club in Davis, and I love it, but unfortunately I can no longer afford it. My contract goes until April, so I am trying to sell my membership (as that's the only way I can get out without paying a huge fee).

It's $71 a month, plus a $39 transfer fee (which I will pay). I think it's too late to transfer for October, but November should be fine.

It's a great gym, nice and new and shiny, and it has really good classes. The Friday vinyasa yoga with Whitney is especially awesome.

Hello folks,

I have some vacation time to take the week of July 4 and am interested in going to a yoga retreat Tu-Fri.  I love Kripalu in Western MA, but that place is so darn expensive.

Does anyone (particularly you folks affiliated with yoga studios) know of any yoga retreats happening that week, or could you recommend a more affordable retreat center within public transportation range (i.e., a Greyhound bus or Amtrak train) where I could just go, hang out, and practice yoga for a few days?

Ideas in Western MA, the Cape, and/or VT are very welcome.

Thanks for any tips you can provide!

Anyone have any reviews of the yoga classes at the Boston Sports Club in Davis? I am thinking about joining but wondering if I will be able to get my yoga there.  Specifically, are the classes good for semi-beginners, are they crowded, etc. The yelp reviews are more specific to the gym itself, not the yoga classes. Thanks.

Hi guys,

Samara Yoga Studio (249 elm street next to the Burren) is having an open house this weekend (Oct 16-17). There're going to be free classes, free acupuncture, free massage, live music, and a potluck.

Here's a Somerville Local First article with more info: http://somervillelocalfirst.org/2010/10/samara-yoga-yoga-in-the-heart-of-davis-square/

Sounds like it should be a good time!

The Groupon today is for the yoga studio on the corner of Mass Ave. and Harvey St. It's $25 for two weeks of unlimited yoga or five yoga classes. I haven't been there myself, but it's right across from where I live, so I've been wanting to check it out. Got the five yoga classes option. The yelp reviews are reasonable:
