Anyone have any reviews of the yoga classes at the Boston Sports Club in Davis? I am thinking about joining but wondering if I will be able to get my yoga there.  Specifically, are the classes good for semi-beginners, are they crowded, etc. The yelp reviews are more specific to the gym itself, not the yoga classes. Thanks.

I used to do all my yoga there until I quit to join a yoga studio. I really liked a lot of the teachers, ben and krysten were my favorites. the classes are generally very good up to a certain level, you just need to shop around and find the styles/instructors you like :)

I take yoga classes at the Davis BSC regularly. My favorites are: Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon classes with Ben (it's a challenging class and the Monday class can be crowded, but if you're not too set on what your idea of what a yoga class should be like (it's not like any other yoga class I've ever taken) and don't get caught up in the idea that you need to keep up with everyone, you can really enjoy it (the class works cardio, strength, balance and flexibility); Thursday morning class with Essdrass -- his style focuses on strength and influenced by martial arts but, again, he encourages his students to do what they can and not do anything that hurts; Sunday morning class with Susie -- this is a slower, very beginner-friendly class, and can be crowded, especially right after the New Year. Krystin is also very good -- she teaches Monday morning (or at least she used to), Thursday afternoon (although I think only thru November), and Friday afternoon -- her morning class is much mellower than her afternoon class; she encourages her students to do what they need to get the most out of their practice, even if it means diverging from her verbal instructions. There are a few other instructors, whose classes are at least adequate or better. It really depends on what you like in an instructor and whether you'd enjoy practicing different kinds of yoga styles. My experience has been that all of the yoga instructors at the Davis BSC are friendly and open to student questions after (or even during) class; it's always helpful to mention to the teacher that you're new to yoga before class starts if you're at all intimidated.

Also, I thought BSC offered a 2-week trial or something like that (albeit, I don't believe it's free anymore -- I think it's $20)?

I've only ever attended the Sunday classes (and I haven't been there in quite a few months)
But I can confirm both that it's a relatively "easy" class (was much tougher when some of the other instructors took over for Susie while she was on vacation), and that it gets crowded at the beginning of the year (call in to reserve at least in January and February)
If your schedule is flexible, I'd definitely recommend trying out as many different styles/instructors as possible, to get a sense of what would work for you.
And yes, definitely mention to the instructor at the beginning of a class that you're new to the style, or Yoga itself, and you'll get some extra helpful attention if you seem to need it, and modifications for trickier postures.
