[identity profile] mindlace.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] davis_square
Hi! I just moved to Somerville six months ago, and I'm looking to get branded. I looked through the other postings in the davis_square lj community but I can't find any recommendations for branding, and my searches haven't turned up any place that will do branding in the Somerville/Boston area. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'd say call one of the bigger tattoo parlors, like Fat Ram's in JP. Even if they don't do branding, they might be able to tell you who might.

Of note is that tattooing itself was illegal in Massachusetts until 2000. I don't know if there are any state laws governing other kinds of bod mod. If so, that's what New Hampshire is for, usually.

Exactly what they do to cattle. Some folks get hot metal burned into their skin. Not for me but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

OK, now I at least know how to tag this. But I still don't know why anyone would want to do this. So far it's the strangest request I've ever seen in this community.

You'd be surprised how many people are into it!

I second the suggestion for Fat Ram's. Closer to Davis, you could also check with Redemption (which is in Porter Square) or Pino Bros. (Inman Square).

This is a pretty standard form of body modification, sort of the next step up from piercing. People also do decorative cuttings (scarification). This request doesn't seem at all strange to me, but then again, I guess my friends are pretty freaky.

And here I thought Botox was the next step up.

I think that's a critical difference between trying to make something old disappear and trying to make something new appear. :-D Also probably about a 20-year difference in ages.

It's decorative--like tattooing and other body mods. And I imagine for some there could be a certain spiritual element to the scarring.

And some folks like the pain.

Didn't realize it was so apparently unheard of though.

Me neither. Especially 'round these parts.
