The city will have to really scramble to relocate all of those classes. Wonder if they'll reopen the Powder House school?

Wow, that's terrible. Keep us posted on the inevitable funding drives, if you don't mind.

Both of these stories are terrible and yet miraculous in that nobody lost their life. It does make very sad to hear that animals perished in the second story, and I hope the cat is located. It also sounds like there were some heroics by our local police:

Ditto. I'd like to donate to help the burned-out family(s), but haven't heard where to do so yet.

Yea Firefighters

I am always so impressed that there are people in this world who are willing to run IN to burning buildings to help others. It sounds like our firefighters had a long and potentially dangerous week and deserve some thanks from the community.

I've asked the same question at the Somerville Journal's blog, and hope to hear an answer soon.

Hi, Meredith. The Somerville Journal just posted information about a fire relief fund, and I reposted it here. If you want to get in touch with the families more directly, Tracy Hughes posted a comment both here and here, including her phone number.

Also covered (pretty well) in the Somerville Journal online:

Were Christmas lights to blame in the fire?
Family loses everything in fire, even the Christmas presents
Spectacular fire kept to one building

If you want to get in touch with the Hughes family to help out more directly than just a financial donation, see the comments at the end of these articles.
