Is there anyone here who attended Northern Illinois University at some point?

I'd like to know that I'm not the only one who is being affected so personally by everything that is happening there.

I grew up not too far away. I can't claim to be personally affected, but it's hitting a bit harder than some of the other shootings have.

My friend who never went to Northern Illinois University and is currently living in Japan is being personally affected by it and posting all caps things in her livejournal about it, so I wouldn't say you are alone.

You have my sympathies--I can't imagine how I would feel if this kind of thing had happened at my alma mater, which I love and support dearly.

There seems to be an niu community--you might want to check that out? I know you're just looking for someone to reach out to, but it may be a long shot to find other alumni locally, unless you are already part of a local alumni group.

I didn't go to NIU, but I grew up in Rockford, about a half hour away...and went to Dekalb often.

One of my good friends was in the building next door yesterday, but she's ok.
