Dear Somervillains,
What's the snow emergency situation down there? I'm coming in to town, and if it's as bad as it is up here in NH, I'll park at Alewife and hope it calms down before I have to move my car for the night. Can visitors park in the overnight emergency lots? Is the one at the Dilboy VFW open today?
thanks,
a visitor

I haven't gotten an email about a snow emergency - and usually you'd see a post in here about it somewhere. So as far as I know there isn't a declared snow emergency - which means the municipal lots are *not* free.

No snow emergency as yet.

There's barely any snow and it's turning to rain now, so I think you're good.

No snow emergency. Tom Champion posted somewhere recently that they decided not to call one. Looks like the right move to me -- this storm was a bust.

Sure, if you have a visitor's permit (or it's a non-permit street).

Posted where? There's no posts from him today/last night.

From a comment he made in the "Mystery Customer" discussion: "PS Based on current forecasts, we aren't planning to declare a snow emergency, even if the snowfall tonight and tomorrow ends up flirting with our 4-inch minimum. But the plows will be out tonight, and as always, the snow emergency situation is subject to change at short notice." Yes, it was buried but I'm sure if there was really a snow emergency it would have been an obvious post.

Maybe it should have been a separate post, someone from out of town driving in posted the next morning to ask us if we had a snow emergency.

As a general rule of thumb, a snow emergency is declared only when there is a National Weather Service forecast of 6 or more inches of snow in the city. There was never any such forecast from the NWS.
