Well, I've only lived here a short time, and am definitely enjoying my new neighborhood- although I still have a lot to find out! My little sister - 19yrs old - wants to come down Friday night. Any suggestions for what to do not involving fake-id related fun-besides bowling or the movie theater!

Thanks in advance!

You might be able to take her to dinner and a show at Johnny D's, even though she won't be able to drink.

You will probably have to venture outside of Davis Square unless you just want to hang at a restaurant.

There are some 19+ club nights around town and other things to do (not right in Davis). What kinds of things does your sister like to do? Sightseeing? Music? Shopping?

If the weather is nice, a walk along the minuteman trail is a great opportunity to spend some time outside.

Where is she from? If not a big city, she might enjoy just wandering around places like Harvard Square, Quincy Market, the North End, Newbury and Boylston streets.

My favorite thing to do is to walk by the charles river bikepath. There are some great views of downtown boston. If you want to get a nice long walk in, you could always walk from the Museum of Science all the way into Harvard along the bike path.

I like to do that at night. Also, walking over the "Smoot" Bridge is cool too!

If she's never been in this area before, she might enjoy Harvard Square. Perhaps Fanueil Hall, the Prudential Center, DUCK tours, JFK library, Copley Square, Copley Place Mall, etc. Check someplace like the Globe for things going on this weekend. I know my older teens like Charlie's Last Resort at Prudential. I've never been, and I'm not sure it's completely appropriate, but they seem to put on quite a 'show'!!

roller derby

it's awesome-hipsters, townies, cheap beer, fried food, girls in skimpy outfits knocking eachother down

I'd recommend buying tix now, though. There were 1600+ in attendance at the last bout.

Check the Middle East in Central. It's a good venue and they've generally got a decent line-up.

...and if either of you are Rock Band fans, Freezepop is playing tomorrow, IIRC.

I am SO BUMMED OUT that I am going to be out of town this weekend! I've wanted to go to roller derby FOREVER and each time...I'm out of town!

I need to find a way to tell my parents to stop interfering with my affinity for all things totally awesome...

I think some of the public libraries also have passes to get into the museum of science, that might be fun to do.

If you have a library card, you can reserve museum passes through the library website http://www.somervillepubliclibrary.org/museumpasses.html

Johnny D's is *always* 21+ for all shows, unless they've had a drastic change recently. Pity, because they have a great Afropop show on Friday evening.

On Saturday evening, there's a Balkan music night. Also, Christine Lavin & Don White - two very funny singer/songwriters - have a show together at the Regent Theater in Arlington at 4pm and 8pm on Saturday.

The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square is always fun. Shows are at 8pm Wednesday through Sunday, and it's usually $10 or less.

What if you show up early for dinner, then stay around as they collect the cover charge and the show starts?

The MOS exhibits are great for kids, but not so exciting for adults. On the other hand, they do have a planet-erium and an Omni theater.

The Harvard museums are also fun. Art of all sorts; really amazing glass flowers and cool rocks and all sorts of stuffed animals at the Natural History museum (free on Sunday mornings although sure to be mobbed with kids due to bad weather). Some of them are also free if you have a Cambridge (but not Somerville) library card.

The MFA and the ICA are open until 9pm on Friday nights if museums are your kinds of thing. Also, albeit far, the coolidge corner theater often has fun shows that are open to all ages, or at least 18+.
