Does the Davis Square Thrift Shop have set hours to drop off donations?

The easiest thing to do is to look up the number and give them a call.

Here ya go.

(617) 628-3618

But as the previous person said, as long as they are open they will take your donations.

you can also leave stuff in front of the door after hours, if you can't get there when they're open.

Don't they have a sign up asking people not to do that?

Yeah, you're really not supposed to abandon stuff there.

There *IS* an unmanned charity-clothes box on Elm near Joey's Thai...

Please don't do that! It makes a mess, and they explicitly don't want it.

Seconded. Phoning a business to ask a question like this is almost always a better choice than posting it to an LJ community.

which is fine if you enjoy angering the people who accept said donations.

One reason not to do it is that people scavenge such 'donations' while the store is closed, and then the store has to clean up the results.

But doesn't that belong to Planet Aid? Which is not a legitimate charity.

Who knows, they may not have had the sign then. The Goodwill where I lived in Ithaca (or was it a Salvo?) took after-hours donations; but then, they had a big parking lot.

Though my hunch is that anyone willing to scavenge donations from outside a thrift store is likely to need them and I wouldn't begrudge 'em, the resultant mess is definitely an undue problem for the store to deal with.

Have you seen what the inside of that store looks like at the end of August? INSANITY! I don't know how they manage it. Any place that takes in-kind donations is gonna be balancing back and forth between actually getting useful stuff vs actually "losing money" if they "spend" more in man-hours of sorting and organizing (and pitching trash) than the good stuff would be worth if they just bought it. I guess that's why so few places do it -- they'd mostly just rather have money.

Eek! I had no idea! Didn't they have a thrift store in Harvard Square awhile ago?

Yes, and one in Davis too, about where Wainwright Bank is today. I don't think they operate any local stores anymore.

The Salvation Army on Broadway, in Magoun Sq, has a drop-off box for after-hours donations.
