Did anyone go to the Licensing Commission meeting last Monday? I'm curious what went down viz a viz beer/wine licenses and the various Davis establishments queued up for the two or three that are available. City website says nothing.

I can't find it online, but there's an article in today's Somerville Journal that nothing has been decided yet. The commission is going to visit the restaurants. The only thing that has been decided is that Chipotle doesn't qualify.

The article says there were 5 applicants for the 2 licenses: Chipotle, Alfresco, Taipei Tokyo, Tip Top Thai (in Teele Square) and Yoshi's (in Powderhouse).

It does not mention Ten Tables or Martsa on Elm -- did they withdraw their applications?

It quotes the Licensing Commission secretary as saying that Chipotle is not eligible because it is not a 'fine dining establishment', which needs to seat between 28 and 60 people, have waiters serving tables, and serve food on real plates with real cutlery.

I wrote to the Journal editor, and she put the article online:

Sake and beery burritos could be on tap

The headline is inaccurate, since the article actually says (as you note) that Chipotle won't get the license.

I'm mildly bummed about Chipotle only because they have outdoor seating and Orleans is currently the only place to sit outside with a beer. But the other spots are just as worthy of a license IMO. Thanks for the post.

If there were 20 licenses available instead of 2, I wouldn't mind having one go to Chipotle. But it does appear that they don't meet the city's guidelines for this category of license.

FYI, I believe Yoshi's is currently BYOB - can't remember if they have a corking fee or not though.

If they can fit 28 people into Al Fresco, I'd like to come by and watch!
