Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine and I want to start walking after work/early evenings now that the weather is warmer, however we don't want to deal with all the crosswalks etc of just walking around Somerville. She lives in East Somerville and I live in Teele/Davis. One idea is to walk on the bike path out to the pond by alewife from Mass ave.

However, we also want a few other options in the area, does anyone know if Tufts or some school nearby has an outdoor track that people can use? Or any other suggestions.

Tufts does have an outdoor track right next to the tennis courts off of Powder House Blvd.

There's a track at Danehy park in Cambridge (right near Alewife). Also, there are paths (Paved, I think) that run around the perimeter of the park and probably total over a mile.

I've walked at Tufts' campus, or, you could drive over to the riverfront area in Medford and walk there, I think.

You could take a quick bus or subway ride to Harvard Square and then walk along the Charles River, which can be a really nice walk this time of year.

I live in Teele and like to walk along the Mystic in Arlington and Medford. If you ever want additional company, let me know. :)

(Also, and I should plug this again now that it's warming, there's [livejournal.com profile] davis_ramblers for doing run and walk stuff.)

Does this mean the Dilboy track isn't available to the public at other times?

I think so -- it's either closed or used by groups who have reserved it.

There's also the Boston Harborwalk (www.bostonharborwalk.com/), across the Summer Street Bridge at South Station (another subway ride). It's fairly awesome and scenic.

Although, anywhere in Boston, Somerville and Cambrige is decent for walking. I don't drive, so I've walked a lot of miles around here. Sometimes I walk downtown from Porter Square (or vice-versa).

Thanks for the reminder of [livejournal.com profile] davis_ramblers. I've just re-friended it and am glad to see it's active.

A good place to walk is from the neighborhood just behind and into nathan tufts park (powderhouse rotary). You can start your walk from the bike trail and head into the neighborhood and make your way to the park. It's fairly quite and not too much traffic.

I don't know how much they enforce the rule, but the Tufts track does state that it is only for the "Tufts Community." There are many other loops one can take on the Tufts campus as well. On the whole, though, I think the bike path or Fresh Pond are the way to go.

I've run there on iccasion, and I've never seen them enforce it. As long as you're not in the way of a team or PE class I bet it's all good.

Actually, if you start at the boathouse in Somerville, there's a path that goes across the river to the Medford side, I think. (I haven't walked it in a while, but somehow I ended up in Medford.)
