McIntyre & Moore reopens tomorrow

I got this e-mail today:

McIntyre and Moore Booksellers will be opening at 1971 Massachusetts Ave. in Porter Square, Cambridge, Thursday April 10. Our hours in Porter Square will be:
Monday through Wednesday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Sunday Noon to 8:00PM.
The phone number is 617-229-5644.

It'll be a "soft" opening, as ours always have been. Thursday we won't start with much more than a thousand books on the shelves, but we have many thousands pre-priced, so we should be able to add a thousand or so per day. For our customers for cookbooks and children's books, we have been able to restock those sections, and we'll get the books out as soon as we can.

To be honest, I love McIntyre & Moore and I'm glad they moved somewhere close by, but the staff and especially the owners tend to be rude and standoffish. It is a running joke among my friends - all patrons - to figure out how many times we can be glared at by the staff while giving them money.

In fact, I was so shocked that one of the owners was personable the last time I was in there (the day before the closed) that people did not believe me when I told them.

I think they were the heart of the square, but they weren't exactly friendly to us young'ns.

Ron, any word on how soon M&M may be taking in new material? I've got a couple of milk crates (old habits die hard) of books I know they'll take, and am hoping I won't have to drag them all the way to Rodney's...but may not be able to hold off much longer.

I stopped this afternoon and I was impressed by the new space. The man marking behind the counter was friendly so I'm willing to give them another chance, especially if they beef up the fiction section.

I don't know if I've maintained my status as "Preferred Customer" over the years enough to dare walk in with books; I'll have to set up an appointment next weekend (hopefully) as I need to finance a serious music fix I've put off for awhile.
