I have not deleted this post because I do not feel it's appropriate for me to remove other people's comments and conversations about fan fic etc.  Consider my hand slapped.

It seems kind of cool to me that the blog of a Somerville paper is covering the Somerville blogging scene. I'd totally believe that the Tom Champion affair was the biggest Somerville blogging news around, so got covered in the blog.

OK, I must stop typing now, as I can't type "blog" anymore without cracking up. What a goofy word.

Wicked Local is an umbrella for all of the GateHouse newspapers, including the Somerville Journal, Cambridge Chronicle, Arlington Advocate, and whatever the Medford paper is called.

Did you see Ron's post over in [livejournal.com profile] davis_snark? If not, http://community.livejournal.com/davis_snark/21084.html We're trying to retire this.

Oh, you've never heard of wingfic? It's where a celebrity grows wings and feels ugly because they're unique in all the world, boo-hoo-hoo, so the Mary Sue comes along and bangs them so they feel better about themselves.

Now, if it were me, I would not have a self-esteem problem if I grew a set of functioning wings. My attitude would pretty much be "fuck all y'all! I've got wings and you don't! Who's the loser of the genetic lottery here?"

Then I'd go prank fundamentalists.

I see no one here rehashing what happened.

Except, you know, this is actually an article about this whole drama. That's a rehash right there. Complete with links.

And no, I will not ask a mod to delete your post. That's actually contrary to my political views. Whether or not you want to respect the request is up to you. I'm just pointing it out.

also, your chest would be something like ten feet out from where it is, currently.

It does exist, alas. You don't know terror until you've been to FF.net.

Yep, slash specifically designates same-gender pairings. It actually got its start WAAAAAAAY back in the '70s with Star Trek fan fiction. The pairings were designated "Kirk/Spock", hence "slash" became a slang term.

I'm working on the theory that I'd just be a guy with wings attached, none of that bothersome "anatomy" or "physics" getting in the way. This IS fanfic, after all.

Yeah, having left FF.N when I turned 15 for the rampant lack of maturity, I know what you mean.

Right. Explicit gay fanfic is slash, explicit hetero fanfic is just... fanfic porn.

Fanfic is probably the most terrifying Internet phenomenon. Say what you will about videos like Lemon Party or Kids In Sandbox (note to lurkers: DO NOT GOOGLE THESE AT WORK!), those are staged events. Fanfic is a window into the mindset of the author, and it's usually a window you want to slam closed, pull the shade on and possibly seal with bricks.

I'm glad you posted it, and I too thought it was funny that it was considered news.

Yeah, I quit fanfiction entirely when I discovered how much more fun writing original fiction is. Some fanfic is truly a good, in-character representation of the original work, but the vast majority is, as you say, incredibly terrifying. And usually poorly written.

OMG. That's hilarious.

What frightens me is that you know this.

I am a nerd, I spend all my time with nerds, I read [livejournal.com profile] weepingcock, and I'm friends with about five slashfic writers. You kind of pick up on this stuff.

I don't think it's right for anyone to try to impose guilt on you because of a request made in another community, no matter how good the sentiment behind the request was. So far none of the comments have been disrespectful, and only one comment was trying to muck-rake.

I took your post as "Holy crap, blogging scuffles make the news??", not as "Hey everyone, let's beat this dead horse!".
