Community yard sale for the SHC

One week to go!

I'm nervous and a bit stressed out about this event. Its the biggest thing we have attempted. We are going to need a lot of help for this to pull it off, so I hope many of you are going to be around on the 27th. The davis_square community yard sale is going to take place Sunday July 27th from 11am to 3pm in Hodgkins Park. All money raised will go to the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

We are going to need (in no particular order).

1) People that day to price items for sale. Basically, you will be telling people how much an item will be selling for and marking down the total price for the items sold to a person (who will then buy the item from the person handling the cash).

2) We will need blankets, tables, anything else you might have to display items. If you are able to get these things to the event early that morning that would be awesome. Please comment or email me.

3) Transportation. If you have a car and could be willing to drive items from our drop off locations to the event or after the event to goodwill in Davis Square, that would be awesome!

4) We hope it is a family friendly and fun event, so if you want to bring music, games, etc. please do.

I've got a portable table you guys can use, but I don't think I'll be able to be there for the whole of the sale. Also, I have a big stack of books that have been just taking up space on my shelves which I keep meaning to give to you guys.

Wait, are we selling this ourselves or just donating it?

Whatever you wanted to do. There should be people helping out with selling things (just basically haggling a fair price for the items). If you just wanted to donate things and leave selling it to other people, that would work fine.

Do you have the list of what the Goodwill is NOT accepting? Last I heard, for instance, they were not taking toys or computer equipment.

1./ About the pricing, perhaps the davis_sale group can establish a price list for bulk items: books, DVDs, clothing, etc. That should cut down on pricing time, but maybe you already thought of that! I still have your email from this morning; I'll send you the price list that my multi-family yard sale used.

2./ I can loan a huge tarp, a table, and a rickety-but-works garment rack. I can certainly drop off and...

3./ I have a car and live close to Hodgkins; I can probably do a morning pick-up and help set-up. I'll know closer to mid-week.

My hunch is that that morning early I will be trying to running around trying to get things to the location. I plan to get an early start to the day. I'll probably be there around 9 or 9:30 if not earlier (depending on what needs to get delivered, etc.).

Right. Salvation Army also isn't accepting toys. It's because of the lead paint scare.

The following two places currently accept toy donations:
Cradles to Crayons (http://cradlestocrayons.org/2/content/category/5/21/110/) - closest dropoff point is Winchester
The Children's Clothing Exchange (http://www.solutionsatwork.org/Services/ChildrensClothing.html) in East Cambridge

When I hosted a Toy Swap here in Medford, Cradles to Crayons came to pick up the leftover toys; if you think you'll have a lot of toys leftover from this sale, you could ask them if they'd be willing to pick up.

It means that if it doesn't sell, goodwill won't take it. You can certainly bring it, but you might have to bring it back home if it doesn't sell.

i'm not sure if we can make it to the yard sale on sunday, but we do have stuff we want to give for sale (nothing that would go against what goodwill won't take). we can still drop our things off at sbux?

I'm sorry to have to miss this :( I always go to Falcon Ridge Folk Festival the fourth weekend of July (this will be my 13th in a row, I bought my tickets in February). I hope it goes well and that someone posts photos!

P.S. If you posted it on boston.going.com and post the link here, I'll add it to my events; the more people who add it, the more likely I think it is to be recommended to their friends and others with similar interests. (I no longer work there but I still like the site :)

Hey, somehow I missed this previously. Starbucks has a basket for people to leave things in, but it isn't a lot of space. I can take stuff at my place or closetalker11 can take things as well. Maybe we can meetup tomorrow or Friday?
