Sad news about a mid-day break-in on Albion Street, at the end of the bike path. My friends' first floor apartment was broken into during the day. I'm not sure of the details, but the robbers did make off with a laptop and a passport. So shut and lock your windows, and make sure you are up on your renter's insurance! Luckily my friends do have insurance and can file a claim. But it's still a bummer.

I'm sorry to hear about your friends apartment. I'm glad nobody was hurt.
Even though a breakin can happen anyway, I'm glad you mention locking the windows. I'm still shocked at how many people newer to the area think it's safe to keep their windows and doors unlocked. It's common sense and some people lack it.

I'm also glad to hear that your friends will e able to file a claim.

Thank you for the information and the reminder

My apartment was robbed when I lived in Allston and I was told by the Boston PD detective that most robberies are during the day, especially weekdays while people are at work. Then the robbers can often just look like someone who is moving (in my case, the person who broke in also stole our luggage and took our stuff out in them)

A few days back over on Alpine St., I was having my new dryer delivered, and while they were bringing it in basement, some little punk hopped up in the cab of the truck and stole the delivery guy's GPS. The delivery guys saw it, and the kid hopped on a bike and took off...my delivery guys sprinted after them on foot... I called the police, but they didn't catch the little punk. It really stunk for the delivery guys, because they were just contractors, so the GPS was personal property. :(

I also find it amazing that so many people who live on the first floor have a computer or large flat screen TV set up right in their front windows, visible to all who pass. It's like an invitation!
