I'm thinking of hiring a contractor to blow insulation into the walls of my drafty old house. I've read that it is very important to get an experienced, skilled installer. Any recommendations? Words of caution?

we used Rodgers Insulation. They did our house in 1 day.

A few years ago, I had some work done by Atlantic Weatherization, and I was very impressed by them.

We're thinking of doing this, as well. If you don't mind me asking, what was the approximate cost and for what size house?

Try an energy audit

We had our house insulated last summer. First, however, we went to NStar and had an energy audit. By going through the utility, rather than going direct, the cost of the work was cut in half. So, a $3,000 job became a $1500 job.

Now, I don't know if the original price we were quoted was inflated to start and you'd do just as well or better if you went directly to a contractor, but it may still be worth a look.

http://www.jonesboysinsulation.com/ used them in the past and they were very prompt with returning calls and getting the job done on time.
