hello everyone,

i was wondering if anyone can recommend a place to get a bike basket (the kind that hooks onto one of those little racks on the back wheel of a bicycle), or if anyone has one they would like to sell for cheaper than the $100 they charge at ace wheel works. i'll probably buy it from them but i'd like to see if i can find it for cheaper first.

thanks!

Don't know if this (http://www.amazon.com/Bicycle-Rear-Grocery-Baskets-Folding/dp/B000BPNK7O) sort of thing is what you're looking for, since I can't imagine it ever being $100, but if it is, or if it would do, they have (or at least had, a few months ago) them at The Bicycle Exchange (http://www.cambridgebicycleexchange.com), and I think they were about $18 a piece. (also print the coupons from the website for 20% off one accessory)

I can't find a list of their locations on their website. Where is their local dealer?

that's a good question, I don't know. I don't think there is one local to MA, if that is what you are asking.... I always order and have items shipped.

Greenward, http://www.greenwardshop.com/ - a couple blocks down from the Porter Exchange at 1776 Mass Ave (it's a basement store; they took over from a long-time computer store that was in there) has bike baskets made from recycled materials.

I know they have these neat metal baskets with scroll-type cut-outs that look really awesome. I *think* they also have collapsible and cloth bike baskets & attachments.

Also, really fun place to shop.

I recommend a Wald basket. They are the classic bike basket, still made in America, very high quality, and cheap. They come in every size and shape you can imagine. Most will come with their own connector stays to attach to your bike, but if you already have a rack, just rip off the connectors and use zip ties to attach the basket to your rack. They can be found online for around $20, depending on the model, and I believe I've seen them at the Bicycle Exchange, though in limited sizes.

I checked it out today. That place is great. I bought a detachable front basket and collapsible metal rear panniers. They looked like they would be great for a grocery run. Very reasonably priced.
