Break-in

Just wanted you guys to be more alert...

A group of guys just broke into one of our cars in our driveway. I was in bed with my 2 dogs and my husband was going around shutting mini-blinds to come to bed when he started yelling and pounding on a window towards out driveway. He bolted outside screaming for me to call the police and the guys ran away when they realized they were caught. The police were extremely helpful and sent cars searching as my husband jumped in his truck chasing the guys. My husband caught a small group of guys all in hoodies which seemed like the guys that had been in our driveway and the cops saw my husbands truck as I had told them what he was driving and pulled over to question them while my husband came home. Basically they couldnt do anything because it was too dark for my husband to ID them and there was nothing taken to be sure. Luckily the other half caught them before anything could really be taken. To be honest I have NO IDEA what they wanted as there was no GPS / Ipod visible, no GPS marks on the windshield, no money or any electronics...the only thing was tonight he had forgotten to alarm the truck. Also tonight there was no parking on our road so we both parked in the driveway and my car was blocking our security sensor light so that didnt go on either.

Anyways just an fyi...lock your cars, alarm them and dont keep valuables out. We live off Broadway a block or two from Teele towards Johnnys.

We have one old car that won't lock (well, it will lock but it won't let us back in then...) Once when it was parked in the driveway of our house near Teele it had clearly been gone through by someone. There was nothing to take but it did seem like a strange target - you wouldn't know it was unlocked unless you went back there, and it doesn't look like much.

Your husband is a hero. No doubt the hooded vermin were probably let go due to the lack of curfew on young pups on the sreets while good folk are going to bed.

I live in that general area as well and now I'm very curious what street you're on if you're willing to send me a message and let me know.

silent hoards of Teel-living Davis Squares.

I'm in the same boat as you - I too live a block or two past Teele off of Broadway on the way to Johnnie's...

I will keep my wits even more about me and my eyes peeled for anything odd.

Break-in earlier in the fall

I live in the same area, off of a side street off Holland between Teele and Davis and my car was broken into in late August/early September in my driveway. My GPS was stolen out of my glovebox and various car chargers were stolen. I reported it to the police and also a couple days later gave them a craigslist posting that matched the GPS exactly, same brand for sale without the mount (they didn't steal the mount for some reason). They said they would check into it and give me a call. No call and they didn't really seems to understand how craigslist worked, that the posting would come off if the person sold the item and that they only way to reach them was through email, which they didn't seem to excited to pursue. They suggested I send the police report to my insurance company for a claim, which of course doesn't make sense with insurance deductibles. They didn't seem to interested in trying to figure out who did it, but rather seemed done when they had written the report and given me the police report number. Nonetheless, a couple petty thiefs in the area so keep stuff out of your car. They didn't break the window, try to steal the car or damage anything. Probably just used a slim jim to break in.

Thieves breaking into cars are rarely looking for visible electronics or similar things.

Most commonly, they're looking for something they can grab very quickly, move to somewhere private, and look through for valuables out of sight of the vehicle they broke into.

Less commonly, they want a car they can hotwire and drive away.

Did you have a backpack or anything similar visible in the car?
