vandalism on Medford last week
Jul. 5th, 2004 05:30 pmDoes anyone have any news on the vandalism along Medford St. in Magoun Square last week (or was it the week prior)? Nearly all the shop windows on the southern side of the street were smashed, one or two were actually violated.
I can't imagine how small establishments like the barber shop and white sport, or less walk-in customer-oriented shops like the stained glass place and g. case bakery could afford to replace all those windows. however, by now most of them have.
this disappoints me as a new resident of Somerville (and of Magoun Square); I'm not really worried about my own property so much as what this says about the treatment of community and business property.

Date: 2004-07-05 04:01 pm (UTC)It has always been one of Somerville's strengths that it is a melting pot mixing working class and even economically disadvantaged folks with the middle class and beyond.
Incidents like this are, sad to say, part and parcel of the landscape, especially when the economy gets bad and people start losing their jobs.
