No, not the kind with fruit, the kind who fixes shoes.

An LJ-less friend needs to get her shoes re-soled. There's a place in the alley next to Starbucks, but neither of us knows anything about it. Anyone here have any experience, good or bad, with shoe repair in the Davis area? (or Porter area)

there is a great place in Arlington Center, right at the 87 from Davis and Porter.

I've heard lots of glowing reviews about the guy in Davis and plan to give him my business... (looks at boot soles) fairly soon.

Another happy recommendation for the fella next to Starbucks. He's taken care of my boots for more than a decade, now. Six or seven years ago, I literally would eschew the local shoe repair folks (to call them cobblers is to ascribe more craft and skill to them than they have) in North Carolina in order to bring my boots back up here to him.

I'm not a big fan of LJSeek. I put the search function on the profile page only because other folks asked for it, and it's better than nothing at all. Searching for "shoe" finds six posts (only one of which is relevant to your query), while searching for "shoes" plural finds nothing. That's just dumb.

In many cases, tags work better than LJSeek for finding old stuff here.

I just joined today after seeing the community on the LJ spotlight because I love Davis Square and spend time there regularly. Already the community has been helpful as I'm in need of a cobbler- thanks!!

I took a pair of boots there when my mom's dog chewed them, and he made them like new. I definitely recommend him.

The guy in Davis is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!! I have taken many pairs of shoes and boots to him for all kinds of repairs--everything is always perfect and he is very inexpensive as well.

What they all said. Not only does he do good work, his advice is good; if it isn't worth resoling something, he'll tell you so, for instance - forgoing the money now to keep your long-term trust. He's definitely my go-to guy for shoe things.

I'll add my voice to the chorus of support. It's worth it just to go in and see an old-school cobbler.

It's worth adding that he's not just good for shoes, but anything that needs sturdy stitching/gluing: One of the shoulder straps on my hiking backpack was tearing off, and I brought it to him for heavy-duty restitching; it's been flawless since.

I'm nth-ing the amazingness of Art Apinian, who is the cobbler at Savas Shoe Repair in the little plaza-ette in Davis Square. He is a genius of shoe repair, boot repair, handbag repair, luggage repair, and briefcase repair. He is also a hilarious guy. LOVE THE ART!

Savas is great. I had an awesome, beautiful leather pocketbook where the zipper started pulling out. He put in a whole new one and was snappy about it. I think his store smells a little odd but it's totally worth it for the quality of work he does. It might just be the leather anyway.
