Its time to decide where to meet for next month. We need to have a general discussion about possible places. We've had multiple meetups at Joe Sent Me and PJ Ryans, so perhaps we should try for a new place.

Please make some suggestions about possible places. I think any bars in Davis, along Mass Ave from Porter to North Cambridge, Teele Square, and Ball Square would be good. Ideally, we would need a bar that could seat a large group and is not super packed every night of the week.

I'll take your suggestions under consideration and make some visits and see what I can come up with.

In an earlier post, I suggested perhaps the reopened Powder House Pub. I've never been to it (either before or after the recent renovations) so I don't know if this is a good idea.

Golden Light. Before it goes out of business after losing its post-1:00 AM customers.

Soundbites is another Ball Square possibility. I don't think they are open 7 nights a week, so we'll need to check on their hours. None of the links on their web site go anywhere ;-(

Hey, there's the meetup idea, we all get totally wasted and meet there at midnight! We can have impromptu athletic contests!

The one at Porter Square indeed sells beer!

It is now called "Pub" I believe.

So if there's ever a remake of Repo Man, we know where they should film it.

What about Christopher's in Porter? Joshua Tree? Johnny D's?

Johnny D's probably has too much live music, unless we did it on a Monday, which is when they have trivia.

I've been to the Powderhouse Pub and it was fine, but in any case, I think pre-reno reviews are probably not useful. Since we haven't been to Ball Square yet, I think it'd be a great destination, pending recon to make sure they're good with it.

I enjoyed Johnny D's trivia the one night I tried it, so that would be fine by me. However, the kitchen is closed on Mondays; all they have to eat is pizza that they order in from somewhere else.

Yeah, they probably wouldn't appreciate DSLJ descending on their free pizza like locusts.

Chipotle applied for a beer and wine license, but Somerville said no, they didn't qualify as the type of establishment the license was designed for. (I think the rules require waiter service and silverware, among other things.)

Haha, I clearly have suggestion failure over here.

I haven't been upstairs at Christopher's, either.

Yeah, I saw that one coming. A place you can quickly buy a cold one and leave? Near a college campus? Not likely.

Orleans would work, and Rock Band doesn't conflict as its on Sundays.

Orleans does have live entertainment on some nights, though -- something to check.

They have music on Thursday nights now, and trivia Wednesdays (I think that's still going on, anyway). Tuesday would definitely be the best night (Rock Band is only Tuesday this time b/c if Sunday's Game 7).

PS, everyone should check out music there on Thursdays! My buddy Dave is hosting the night, and will be performing soon.

Though I'm fine with the idea of a meetup that merges into a trivia night, especially if the trivia format is better than the Burren's.

Is there a schedule online anywhere? Their website mentions Friday music but not Thursdays. I have seen Thursday music advertised on a poster outside the restaurant.

The Orleans meet-up did not work out too well. The space was awkward and the music was so loud, we could barely talk.

I like the idea of a part of town we haven't been to yet... Ball, Powderhouse, or Porter work well for me...

In Porter Square we have Newtowne Grille and Spirit. I don't know much about either of them. I don't think there are any bars in Powderhouse (the Powder House Pub is actually in Ball Square)

omg can we do this please?

Spirit might be too small and the tables are awkward (though, I personally feel like these things should be a bunch of smaller tables with people standing/milling, but anyhow...)

I realize it won't fly, but I want to suggest Cambridge Common anyhow :P

IDK, I doubt it. They're pretty slow about updating their website.

I'd go for that. What's a davis_square meetup without burritos?
