because everyone freaks out and craps themselves if there's a rouge color or font size on LJ.

It's also a community rule, tacitly agreed to by everyone who joins and posts to the community.

Where? I thought (and may be mistaken) that the moderators generally asked that embedded images be hidden behind a cut, and a quick look through the recent posts doesn't turn any non-hidden posts with images up.

[livejournal.com profile] truered is talking about the yoga ads, which the mods just asked to stop for a while.

Thanks for the lj-cut, but really, that would look so much better without the formatting.

Because, for the most part, [livejournal.com profile] davis_square is a group of people who prefer to read unadorned text, with sparse use of formatting and graphics. We don't want to be MySpace. On the profile page we even have this rule:
  • Please post in plain text. The occasional bold or italic tag is fine, but pasting an extensively formatted document from Microsoft Word or a PDF results in a post that won't properly display on many people's friends pages. It's best to avoid the Rich Text editor entirely, and use the HTML editor instead.

Hah, not one comment actually relating to the event.
Davis Square, calm down, and enjoy the show.

I had such fine snark prepared, and you took the fun out of it.

I went to the FBC show last year, and it was quite good. I'm [livejournal.com profile] ellf, and I endorse this performance.

Looks like text to me. No images except the stupid icons LJ inserts after links. The only suggestions I'd make are:
1) Centered text is less easy to read, and
2) It's bad to put spaces between letters (as in Halloween above) because it'll make screen readers pronounce every letter separately.

If you can't handle color or links in your text, I recommend you get a monochrome monitor (you can no doubt get one real cheap) and browse the web exclusively with Lynx.

Dude - you started the conversation with a demand - not a request, but a demand - to change or remove the post. Since you obviously don't know, civilized adults do not go around making demands of each other without asking nicely first and, if necessary, explaining why they're asking.

If you had begun by asking nicely, and maybe saying why, we might all think a "no color, no different font sizes, no hypertext" rule is stupid in an HTML environment, especially when the colorized, multi-sized text you're complaining about is still handicapped accessible, but we would probably all have been willing to be nice about it and you might even have gotten what you wanted. But no, you had to be rude about it. So, you are getting the community's opprobrium.

I was trying to point out, in a way that I hoped expressed only mild irritation and didn't use any harsh language, that what your demand didn't seem to make sense. You could have learned from what I said that you had phrased what you said poorly. But no, you had to be snarky at me about it. This lecture on your poor manners is the consequence. Deal with it.

The next time you put up an ad and don't want to deal with email comments, there should be an option at the bottom to disable sending comments to your inbox; you should be able to edit your post to do just that right now.

Fair enough, I didn't mean to phrase it like a demand. However, it is part of the community rules, and that question HAD been answered elsewhere in the comment thread. My first reaction to your comment was "Um, why did you even bother to reply?", to be honest. Hence my snarky reply.

But no, you had to be rude about it. So, you are getting the community's opprobrium.

Forgive me for pricking your sense of importance here, but so far the only person who has chastised me is yourself. And perhaps a few other people, but, hey, you're the only one who spoke up. And, hey, I can certainly be brusque. Sometimes that rubs people the wrong way, and that just goes with the territory.

I was trying to point out, in a way that I hoped expressed only mild irritation and didn't use any harsh language, that what your demand didn't seem to make sense.

OK, stop and think, really hard, for a moment. YOU feel that my "demand" doesn't make sense. Which is an opinion. I'm of a differing opinion. This is a minor issue. You were expecting...what, precisely?

This lecture on your poor manners is the consequence. Deal with it.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not put out at all. Nice talking to you!

But .. see the community rule that is posted right above your comment. [livejournal.com profile] davis_square is a conversational community, and the people here prefer to see clear, simple, unadorned text for the most part. We don't want to turn into MySpace.
