Hello all,

I would like to get a safe deposit box in Davis Square. Can anyone recommend a spot? This post -> http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/726075.html turned me away from Bank of America.

Thanks much!

That's the one made out of concrete, right?

Same building as the Dilboy Post VFW. (The VFW side still has "HIGHLAND TRUST COMPANY" etched on the facade)

Why not just call them and ask?

Do you have to have an account somewhere to get a safe deposit box there? My account is with a credit union that has nothing like boxes. I'd like a box, but I won't ditch my credit union to get one.

How did a VFW and a bank end up sharing a building? Who owns it?

Something I'm curious about too. I don't really know the building's history. When I first moved here, the left side was Winter Hill Federal Savings (as it was then called), the middle was Somerset Savings Bank, and the right was the Dilboy VFW (as now). But the etched lettering outside on the right side says HIGHLAND TRUST COMPANY. I assume they either failed or merged with another bank, but that was long before my time.

Somerset Savings moved to their brand new building on Elm Street, then got eaten up by USTrust, which in turn was eaten up by Citizens Bank. I think Winter Hill Bank now uses Somerset's former space for back-office operations.

Um, did someone tell you you can't have accounts at two financial institutions?

I really don't want to have a second checking account that exists for no purpose and likely needs some minimum balance to not cost me money. That's more than I'm willing to do for a safe deposit box.
