Stinky our local skunk was out and about last night, and it made me think about the other critters in our neighborhood. Skunks seem almost common; I've also seen possums, raccoons, and interrupted a half-grown hawk behind Store 24 one afternoon--he'd taken down a starling that was as big as he was, and was trying to peck it to death while it thrashed and shrieked. I ran him off, the dorkus. :P

Who else has had encounters with wildlife in Our Fair Square?

One of Stinky's cousins was in my driveway the other morning. Freaked me out a little... cause at first I thought it was a cat.

I smelt him several blocks away. There was still a faint aroma this morning. Skunks were much more common a year ago; we had a local one who visited our street regularly. Then some spoilsports complained and animal control took him away...

If you go uphill a bit: there's a pair of owls we've seen flying over Tufts, and a bird of prey of some sort which likes to perch on Goddard Chapel (on top of College Hill, the highest point for a long way around -- smart bird).

More skunks than I'd care to think about seem to die under local porches :/. Ewww.
