is around 200M, if not more. I find this outrageous, no matter how one spins it.

mmm more like $160 million, with around ~$110M going towards transportation and security; it's slightly more than the 2004 inauguration cost. Considering the $50 million is coming out of the pocket of donors and the remaining is to keep the crowds safe, I'd say the only thing outrageous about it is that security costs so much!

It will be more than 200M. The cost of the 2004 inauguration is irrelevant. With that logic, it would be OK to start another random war just because Bush started one.

I think the 2004 cost IS relevant; it provides context as to how much inaugurations cost. And again, the festivities come from the donors' pockets and the security is there to protect the top half of the former and present line of succession as well as over 1 million people crowded into a relatively tiny space.

How about NOT having an inauguration, for a change?

They could have an inauguration in 2nd life. :) It would have been a great symbol for change.
