Buried in the NWS Winter Storm Warning was the following:
BY EARLY AFTERNOON SNOW WILL HAVE ACCUMULATED 4 TO 7 INCHES ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. HOWEVER... WARMER AIR MOVING IN OFF THE OCEAN AND ALOFT SHOULD CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION TO PLAIN RAIN BY MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. A BRIEF PERIOD OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WITH A LIGHT ACCUMULATION OF ICE IS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE CHANGE OVER TO ALL RAIN. THE EVENING RUSH HOUR MAY BE QUITE MESSY WITH RAIN FALLING ON TOP OF SNOW CLOGGED STORM DRAINS... WHICH MAY RESULT IN SOME URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE STREET FLOODING.
I should complain about the City not clearing the storm drains, but with so much snow hard frozen in the streets, I don't see how this was ever possible. So in short, be prepared for wet shoes.

I feel I have little basis to complain about impending street flooding. I did notice they built a wind turbine in Medford by the Meadow Glenn "Mall". This windmill is visible from parts of Davis Sq. As such, I think I am going to start a protest against it. I haven't thought of a reason to protest it yet, but perhaps people will be willing to work with me on this.

One of the things I have noticed in these last couple of storms is people parking on the even side, and avoiding being ticketed/towed (because there's no warning on the street), who cause the plows to not go all the way to the curb in some spots.

We get a big pile of snow in front of the car, which melts/refreezes into a hard block.

Next snowfall, the plows plow around it, so it gets bigger.
And so on ... which leads to ice dams around storm drains.

I really wish there were a way of reporting someone like that and getting something done about it right away, before the plow comes, and before they hop back in their car and get away scott free.

I'm sorry, I'm confused by the last paragraph of your post. Why do you need to protest the wind turbine? What's the matter with it being visible "from parts of Davis Square?" Personally, I'd have no problem seeing a wind turbine once in a while if it means that we're getting more energy from renewable sources.

Some more odd-even parking switching should really help that. After spending time in Duluth Mn which gets 800000 more inches of snow than we do, and they have a brilliant and mythical system that keeps the roads clear, and doesn't involve as much salt as we use here. Sure it was a pain to move the cars, but not plowing one side of the road, all winter is a recipe for lost spaces, stuck cars, accidents, and loss of driving/biking space.

hell, if they could just get a bobcat or other front loader out to knock down the ice islands, I'd be happy.

It takes away from the natural beauty of the Meadow Glen Mall. Bam! Reason!

I know of at least two people in my neighborhood who make a point of clearing the storm drains near their houses; I would like to publicly acknowledge their awesomeness. Also the awesomeness of all the people I don't know of who clear drains.

Great. Now you've given some gullible idiot the idea to *actually* protest the windmill. ;-)

at least they try in Somerville.. In medford we aren't allowed to park overnight on the Odd side Nov. 1st through April 1st. You'd think this would involve them plowing that side, once in awhile at least.. er. no. and the other side where the cars are, is ice islands before and after every car.

Yup. Exactly. And the cars need to move for them to do it.

As for Medford... I was out there last week, and my god, what a mess!

Bonus points if you show up to whatever meeting/board/commission you'd have to bring the protest to dressed as Don Quixote.

Maybe it's a Netherlands-style windmill to pump the floodwater out of the streets with the clogged storm drains.

Ya to add to more confusion for that, evidently you only park on the even sides at night on winters that start on an even year (hense, 2008 - even side overnight parking). Also, you evidently can't park in the municiple parking lots during snow emergencies. (As evidence by my car being TOWED last snow storm)...lol I'm running into more issues with Medford's parking than Somerville - Somerville at least marks these darn things. I learn by ticket/towing.

I think all that's being said is that tinfoil is not suitable for the craft of knitting. Also it will leave gaps. You are better off forming it over your skull in a smooth dome.
