My husband and I are thinking about changing our cell phone company. We're currently with AT&T and are thinking about switching to Verizon. We live about two blocks away from Powderhouse Square (near St. Clements church). We're curious if anyone else lives near us and have Verizon Wireless and if so, what is their reception like? We currently only get one bar our of four for reception which obviously sucks.

Other than the obvious problem with reception in our home, we're fairly happy with AT&T. We just don't want to go through the hassle of moving our numbers if the reception at home isn't any better with Verizon than what we already have. If anyone lives near us and has Verizon, we'd appreicate hearing how your reception is in the area. Thanks!

I live right in Powderhouse Square (just a couple doors down Broadway) and I have Verizon. I get excellent reception - almost always full bars - and haven't had any real problems with their service. I've been with them for five years (not always in this location) and have consistently been satisfied with both the reception and the customer service I've gotten and I highly recommend them to anyone who asks. Supposedly they have the widest coverage, and based on my experience with them, I'd believe it.

I'm a few blocks further, probably four blocks from Powderhouse and I get great reception with Verizon. I've been with them a few years, too.

Out of all the cell phone companies in the area, Verizon has the best network because they've been here the longest. (Verizon formerly known as Bell Atlantic formerly known as NYNEX formerly known as New England Telephone).

and of course, you now have Number Portability so you don't have to change your phone number anymore.

sometimes reception has less to do with service, and more to do with quirky deadspots. for instance, in my old kitchen i'd always lose signal; no one on nextel gets service -inside or in back of- my office (but i do fine on sprint).

sometimes it can do with our decent your phone is too, at pulling down signal. (ie, upgrading phones can help on your current service, but getting crappy old phones on new service could be just as bad. that's only likely if you get second hand phones though.)

Anyway, the best way to test is to get people on verizon to come over to your house!

I live just outside Ball Square and get excellent reception from Verizon! We switched from Sprint for that very reason (one of :)

if anybody is (or know someone that is) thinking of living in belmont with a cell phone, verizon reception was quite poor. i think it has to do with the town not wanting towers, or some silly reason.
