HODGKINS-CURTIN PARK COMMUNITY MEETING RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH 9

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 7 Alderman Robert Trane invite all interested residents and stakeholders to attend a Community Meeting to discuss the renovation plans for Hodgkins-Curtin Park. The meeting will be held Monday evening, March 9, 2009, at 6:30pm in the Senior Center meeting room, TAB Building, 167 Holland Street. All are welcome; children and teens are encouraged to attend.

This meeting was originally scheduled for March 2, but the TAB Building closed that night due to the snow emergency. A PDF of the preferred plan for Hodgkins-Curtin Park has been posted on the City website. This design, along with other detail drawings, will be discussed at the March 9 meeting. To see the plan, visit www.somervillema.gov, and use the City Departments link to find the OSPCD Parks & Open Space page. The Hodgkins-Curtin Park renovation has a link through the Parks page.

For more information, please contact Landscape Project Manager Ellen Schneider at (617) 625-6600, x2529, or by email: eschneider@somervillema.gov.

I'm relatively pleased with the design — it looks like they took a lot of our concerns into consideration. The "sand river" idea is a decent compromise (the mayor wanted no sand; most of us parents whose kids use the park all the time wanted it to stay), and the basic layout is unchanged, which is good 'cause we liked it. And lots of trees, but now with picnic tables.

I'll get an update and post it to the Yellow Park mailing list. And here, if it's interesting.

Yeah, me too.

Last I heard (mid June) the project was out to bid, with the plan to have a contractor selected by yesterday (July 1).

Oh, just heard back, in fact:

"We are getting there. No contractor yet, but should have the final decision in a few days. Start date will be determined after we have the contractor. Still hoping to get the playground done by the fall."
