I've noticed most free or cheap ones are often broken which is why I opted to post here where people might actually have a decent one collecting dust as opposed to hit up the craigslist where they are most likely unloading broken ones.
I so wasn't aware that the marketed serge/sew machines were anything but. Learn something new every day.
