Tried memories, tags, mbta.com, etc. And I'm talking tree & ground nuts, not all us crazies. *g*

Which restaurants in Davis Square & Somerville are safest for those with nut allergies?
Apparently, my target person's tastes run toward Italian or bbq {fyi 1: Web search revealed one customer who had trouble with Red Bones}). And for this sufferer, airborne particles or utensils used to cut nuts(by previous customer, even) are triggers.
fyi 2: Greek Corner restaurant sez all dishes are safe but the dolma, which include pine nuts. But this friend doesn't like Greek, so my search continues.

Have you considered sushi?

There's a sushi place next to Blue Shirt now, and I'm not aware of any sushi involving nuts ever.

if airborne particles or utensils used to (even previously) cut nuts are triggers, then the place would have to be entirely free of nuts, yes? and things coming from factories with that little disclaimer 'also processes items containing nuts' or whatever?

sorry, i'm useless but curious. i'd be afraid to eat out.

Sesame seeds may be a concern, possibly?

Pine nuts are not nuts. (Neither are peanuts).

Dunno, if even airborne particles are a trigger, I think I might just opt to cook at home. I can't think of a cuisine that never uses any nuts at all...

Peanuts are ground nuts. Yes, I know totally different species, but the OP noted that her friend is allergic to both tree & ground nuts.

Pine nuts are seeds, which are closely related to nuts; I believe that some people with strong nut allergies are also sensitive to seeds of various types. So this may be an issue.

Why don't you try calling a few of the local Italian and BBQ places and see what they have to say? Would it be possible for you to bring your own utensils? I know that seems a bit odd, but probably less odd than your friend having an attack because she's using a fork that recently speared a cashew.

it's a bit farther, and expensive, but Om in harvard square is a nut-free kitchen because their chef is allergic to peanuts.

Not that I need, but good for those who do...

I'm not sure which sushi place the poster is referring to but the Taipei and Tokyo in fact serves peanuts in one of their sushi rolls (the avocado and peanut roll, my favorite actually)!

Good luck to the OP. I wonder if Yelp has any sort of thread about this topic!? It's such a tough one!

We've never had a problem with Redbones. I believe the only nut-thing they have is Pecan Pie, which is made somewhere else. I would avoid eating any pie because of possible knife contamination, but I've never had room for pie there anyway.

and not local, but possibly useful for someone searching the archives, Blue Ginger in Wellesley is supposed to be fantastic with food allergies. Ming Tsai has a kid with peanut allergies.
