VOTE TODAY - 7 am to 8 pm

The cities of Somerville, Medford, and Cambridge all have municipal elections today. Polls open at 7 am and close at 8 pm.

If you don't know where to vote, enter your address on the form at WhereDoIVoteMA.com or My Somerville .

Somerville has no contest for Mayor this year, but does have 5 people running for 4 alderman-at-large seats, as well as contests for Ward 6 Alderman, Ward 4 School Committee, and Ward 5 School Committee. For much more information, look at the comments for this earlier post.

I don't know anything about Cambridge's election, so if you're interested in that I suggest you visit Robert Winters' website. Feel free to add comments about it here.

Today is NOT the special primary election for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat -- that will be December 8.

Somerville does indeed have a contest for mayor this year. It's just that there are no other individuals on the ballot except for Mr. Curtatone. Poeple are free to either not vote for him, or to write in another individual (which is what I did.)

True -- my statement was a bit imprecise. I don't know of any organized write-in campaigns for any Somerville offices this year, though.

It's a good thing Robert Winters's site exists.

I tried to view the sample ballot and candidate lists at http://www.cambridgema.gov/ELECTION/ , and the links were all broken. I called the Cambridge Election Commission yesterday to report this, and they haven't fixed it yet. But they did tell me that the only things on the ballot are the city council and school committee elections, which is what I was trying to confirm.

I clicked on New - Specimen Ballots and it looked fine to me. Ditto for Municipal Candidates.

Ah, there's some buggy web code involved. The link tag includes two separate paths to most of those pdfs, one correct and one broken:

I opened the link in a new tab, so the href gave me a broken link relative to the http://www.cambridgema.gov/ELECTION/ directory. If you do a regular left-click, the onClick javascript gives you a working link in the CityOfCambridge_Content/documents/ directory.

Now to see if I can get this across to the Cambridge IT staff...
