Well, not sure about Somerville, but when I broke my foot last year, I called the RMV about getting a temporary HP tag for my car for grocery stores and malls, etc, and they told me that it would take up to 6 weeks to get the tag, IF it was approved. Well crap, by then my foot would have been almost healed. (lol, no pun intended), so I didn't bother.
However, seeing as one of my mom's tenants (yes, in Davis sq. ) got a ticket, and their car was LEGALLY parked in front of the house, WITH a resident sticker on the dashboard, I fear for you. Those parking cops are mean.
