My organization, Hostelling International USA hosts monthly Cultural Cafe dinners to raise money for our organization's Cultural Kitchen program. (a good description was in today's Globe: http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/food/articles/2010/02/17/touring_the_world_one_dish_at_a_time/)
Our next Cultural Cafe dinner is on March 2nd at Annapurna Restaurant (Himalayan food) near Porter Square. The owner is from Nepal and will say a few words about his culture, and the food will cover a larger Himalayan area - Afghanistan, India, Tibet, Nepal. The meal is family-style and includes gratuity, though not alcoholic drinks. It is $25 and you must pre-pay at http://culturalcafemarch.eventbrite.com by February 26th. We've been doing this program since June and people have been having a great time!
In April we are in Allston (at Cafe Brazil - sign up at http://culturalcafeapril.eventbrite.com) but on May 4th we're back in the area - at Sabur! This is another restaurant that, like Annapurna, serves food from a broad geographic area, in this case the Mediterranean. However, the owner is Bosnian and so the evening's meal will be a traditional Bosnian feast. You may sign up at http://culturalcafemay.eventbrite.com.
If this sounds interesting to you in general, we have a great group on meetup.com - please consider joining! It's http://www.meetup.com/culturalcafe
