I received this notice from the Somerville Arts Council mailing list, and figure some people here would be interested:

Residents, neighbors and friends are invited to celebrate the fourth annual Community Day at Tufts University from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 1. The event will take place on the academic quad at Tufts' Medford and Somerville campus and is cosponsored by the two cities.

ExpandHighlights of the day include free lunch, music, dance, kids' activities ... )

Community Day is free and open to the public. All events are handicapped accessible. Events including lunch will take place on the main academic quad at the top of the hill by Goddard Chapel, Ballou Hall and the statue of Jumbo. Community Day will be held rain or shine.

A complimentary shuttle will run from Davis Square (across the street from Somerville Theatre) to the Tufts campus.

For more information about Tufts Community Day, visit http://www.tufts.edu/cday or call the Office of Community Relations at 617-627-3780.

Did you know that Marshmallow Fluff was invented in 1917 in Somerville's Union Square? Come celebrate the genius of Fluff creator Archibald Query in a tribute on Saturday, September 30. Join artists, musical and theatrical performers, inventors, and humorists to pay yummy homage to this great American foodstuff in a madcap festival of science meets nostalgia meets urban landscape.

The event takes place from 3 to 7 pm in Union Square Plaza. Rain date is Sunday, October 1. Union Square Main Streets website has the full scoop.

***EDIT:  Meet at 7:30 in front of Sacco's - I am wearing black pants, maroon shirt, and glasses.  I won't be online after 4:45pm.
Thanks to [personal profile] plumtreeblossom for reminding me of how buried my comment had gotten!  Anyone interested in meeting up and going bowling tonight?  Weekday nights are horrible for me...

Um, I just kind of suddenly remembered that my car needs an inspection in September. ::looks at calendar::

Does anybody know for sure of a service station in or near Somerville that will be open tomorrow morning for state inspections? I know I can probably get away with waiting until Monday, but for once I'd like to manage to get my car inspected in the month it's actually due....

Hi all,

I checked the history and couldn't find any posts on mattresses, so I hope this isn't a repeat. If it is, I apologize. I've been sleeping on a full-size futon for over a year and am ready to upgrade to a queen-size innerspring mattress. I'd check craigslist, but I'm squeamish about used beds. I went into Mattress Discounters in Downtown Crossing today and had a really bizarre experience, and am hoping for recommendations on where I can get a decent mattress that will last for around $300. Does such a thing exist? I hope so.

Also, I read some postings elsewhere about Big John's Mattress Factory, but when I called to check their hours the number was disconnected. Does anyone know about that...?

I'm a grad student who finds herself looking down a barrel of a long weekend of reading, reading, reading. When I find myself having to work on a weekend night, I like to go to a coffeshop so that I can feel like at least I'm out in the world and so I'm not tempted to get in my PJs and start watching DVDs of Veronica Mars and Arrested Development.

Any suggestions for good studying coffeeshops? Diesel is always full on weekends and Starbucks is...Starbucks. I actually live near Harvard Sq, so anywhere in Cambridge, Somerville, or even Back Bay/Fenway (short busride away) is good. Someplace lively but not rowdy, well-lit, and, if possible, open late.

Thnaks!
