Hi!

Three young, responsible, alternative types are seeking an apartment as close to Davis Square as possible for Sept. 1.

The following criteria are necessities:
-3 bedrooms, or 2 bedrooms with extra common space of some kind
-Laundry in building, or laundry hookups
-Some outdoor space - deck or yard
-Reasonable walking distance (15-20 minutes or less) to Davis, Porter, Harvard, Alewife or Kendall T

These things would be excellent plusses:
-Dishwasher
-Hardwood floors
-Offstreet parking
-Pantry space
-Storage space
-First floor or first/second floor
-Pets okay (we currently have no pets)

Please contact us if you have anything to show! Thanks!

1 bedroom available in a 2 bedroom apartment located on Sycamore Street between Highland Ave and Medford Street. 20 minute walk to Davis and Porter, 10 minute walk to Union Square, 5 minute walk to Somerville Public Library, Town Hall, YMCA. On or near bus routes to the red line, green line and orange line.

“Philadelphia Style” set up (most of the apartment is on the first floor, one bedroom is alone on the second floor), free laundry IN UNIT, back porch and fenced-in back yard with charcoal grill, ample storage in basement and closet space in the apartment, hardwood floors, freshly painted in fun colors, on-street parking with Somerville permit. One full bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower, large eat-in kitchen with pantry, large living room and library/study. Bedroom available is negotiable. Both fit a queen-sized bed and other furniture, comfortably. Can be painted to your liking.

PICTURES HERE!

Off-site landlady, easy to get in touch with and very hip. Great neighbors and lots of neighborhood pride and friendly faces.

Me:
•Female, late twenties, steady full time job, graduate student
•Usually quiet but willing (and hoping) to have a friendly relationship with a roommate.
•Not home every night but when I am I like to watch television or listen to music.
•I’m not a neat freak but like the place to look tidy. Full cleaning is done as needed. (sometimes I hire a professional!)
•Two indoor/outdoor cats and one small dog in residence
•GLBT, poly, pagan, geek, nerd, dork, role-player, musician, artist, actor and normal friendly.

You?
•Mid to late twenties or early thirties
•Working full time or other source of steady income, prompt with bills
•Smokers okay, but please keep it outside
•Pets welcome (pending landlady approval)
•Laid back and respectful of privacy
•Tendency towards tidiness but not anal about cleaning
**Must like dogs and be immune to cat allergies!**

Rent is $650 a month. There’s a little wiggle-room on that figure.

Utilities are separate and run about $100 a month, which includes Comcast internet (wireless compatible), digital cable with On Demand, electricity and gas. There’s no land-line phone in the apartment.

Month-to-month lease! First, last and security required to move in, but dates are flexible!

I just noticed that one of my neighbors picked up a $30 fine for parking within 30' of an intersection. This is one of those bullshit tickets that tend to enrage, because people have been parking in that same spot since I moved here to Somerville about 4 years ago. There yellow "no parking" curb markings are only 5' from the intersection and this car is parked beyond it.

So keep in mind the city is probably running short on tax revenues and are sending the men and women in blue around to help fill the city coffers by ticketing for the ridiculously nit-picky and arcane things.

Sorry, but just for clarity, I wanted to start a new post.

I wasn't aware of the Magoun Sq fire the other night. That would explain the renewed emphasis on these parking regs. Let me be clear in saying what a horrible thing to happen and my hearts go out to the folks who lost their homes and belongings in the fire and to the firemen who had to deal with this situation.

Having said that...... rant )

Today, around 2:45pm, while I was working at my dining room table, I heard a rustling and rattling that I assumed was my roommate in the next room. (It turns out he wasn't home at the time).

Fifteen minutes later I was heading down the back stairs to get my bike and leave when I discovered that someone had come in through the open door of our second-floor back porch. The intruder had apparently gone directly to the pantry (in the back, off the kitchen) and run through the shelves grabbing packages of sweet-smelling foods using sharp claws and pointy teeth.

Given that the perp passed over a bucket of handy compost scraps just *outside* of the human-lair, and could not even wait to get back out of the house before ripping through the side of the canister of powdered chocolate, I'm guessing we're talking about a seriously pre-menstrual squirrel here. There was muffin-mix, chocolate, and little scraps of packaging all over the back stairs.

The ferocious guard-cat who was on duty at the time had this to say:

"what??" <*lick*> <*lick*>
