This is exciting news:

http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/somerville/2010/03/construction_at_maxpak_could_b.html

I was glad to see the site demolished, but can't believe how much noise the trains generate without the buildings absorbing the sound. Does anyone know where I can check out the plans? How are the developers going to deal with the load trains? Thx.

What are load trains? As far as I know, all construction materials will be brought to the site by truck.

If you click on the Tentative plans link in the Boston.com article, you'll get some idea what is planned.

I think "load" was a typo and the OP meant "loud."

I was the one in the room at the meeting who elicited this news with my question. The meeting was just a followup on an earlier public safety meeting. I almost didn't go, glad I did.

I don't remember what's been said in the past regarding noise, but perhaps someone else who has been attending these meetings would know. In any case, when there are more buildings up to replace the ones that were taken down, you'll probably be back to where you were before. I assume you live on Clyde or Murdock?

I live on Warwick, directly across the street from the site but a distance from the train, and I haven't really noticed. That said I don't have windows facing that direction that I spend any time near.

Also the green line extension will involve some sound barrier construction activity, but they haven't come up with a specific list of where they'll be doing that along the corridor.

Thanks for your report. Do you know whether KSS plans to use the Community Path extension right-of-way for construction truck traffic, and if so, for how long?

That plan hasn't changed.

Except that I thought their original permission to use that right-of-way for construction traffic expired at the end of 2009.

Maybe, but Ted Tobin, who was standing right next to Monica Lamboy, specifically referenced using the ROW for the early Warwick side work (and Lowell side for later work) in response to a question.

I imagine they can use it right up until the Cedar to Central project happens sometime in 2011.

BTW, there was some discussion on how to communicate this kind of news to the neighborhood. Naturally the group did not settle on a single answer (even though setting up an email list takes almost no time at all), but it sounds like ward5online.com might be one source for future info.
