It's nice to see that eyesore finally gone. My understanding is that the complex that is supposed to be built there is quite nice, but I can't imagine that it's ever going to be completed. I've heard they're going to be between 75 - 199 condos / townhouses, but with the housing market being what it is these days and for the foreseeable future the likelihood that the project gets going is small. I would love to see a new park go up in that spot. What this city needs is more green space.

You're again invited to

The Social Contexts of Light,

a sprout spaghetti dinner

sprout spaghetti dinners are about getting people from the Cambridge and Somerville communities together around good food, good music, and good performance. The next one is this Wednesday evening January 20. Join us for an evening of performance, dinner, and an exploration of light as a means of political, artistic, and cultural expression. As usual, the event will be at 339R Summer St. Somerville MA with dinner at 7:30pm and performances at 8. There is a $10 suggested donation to cover the cost of food and performers. This month, Food Not Bombs will be preparing our spaghetti, and the performers will include ::

- Nell Breyer is an artist who combines projections and choreography. She will demonstrate an interactive projection program.

- John Hulsey and Ilaria Minio Paluello worked to install a series of shadow projections in foreclosed houses throughout Roxbury and Jamaica Plains. They will be discussing and sharing the role of light in addressing the complicated situation around the mortgage crisis.

- The Aaatack is a local ambient/electronic/techno band who will performing a set of original songs.

- John Bell and Shaunalynn Duffy will present a series of toy theater tableaux looking at the social history of light accompanied by Mike Romanyshyn on clarinet.

Please, send any questions to spaghetti@thesprouts.org. We hope to see you Wednesday with an empty stomach!

This is only relevant because of the upcoming MA election (which is going to affect Somerville and Davis Sq).

The SN posted: http://www.thesomervillenews.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=3007

It looks like: "The members of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association voted to endorse State Senator Scott Brown as our next United States Senator in Tuesday's election against Attorney General Martha Coakley."

They complain that "We do not endorse anyone who advocates changes in the health care that take away any bargaining rights or increases our cost along with our contributions. Senator Brown does not support the Comprehensive Health care Reform Bill and promises to be the 41st vote to ensure its defeat. The current leadership at the state house, as we all know and have seen over the past two years, have an agenda to dismantle all of our hard earned bargained benefits and they will continue to dismantle these until there is a complete change from the top down".

Is Brown the solution to their problems? Really? Scott Brown is their pro-Union guy? This makes no sense.

Hi Everyone! Some people here must have kids...or are thinking of having kids...or were once kids yourselves...

Anyway, are you thinking about which school is right for your child? Or just interested in learning more about Somerville's public schools?

This week, all Somerville elementary schools are open for tours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (January 20-22) from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary; just stop by the schools that interest you.

In my view, this is probably the single best way to get a feel for a school. You can see the buildings, talk to parents and administrators, and can sometimes sit in on classes.

In Somerville, residents can send their child to any school in the city. Most people send their children to their neighborhood schools, but many send their children to other schools because of special programs that are offered, transportation convenience, or just because they like them. The decision is yours.
